Hello, fans of genuine 70's Italian Prog… Rejoice! Fabio Zuffanti (Finisterre) came out with his new side project, La Maschera di Cera. The music mounts back to the best Mellotron / Moog driven symphonic prog performed by bands like Museo Rosenbach or IL Balleto Di Bronzo. All the ingredients are in place: distorted basses, accoustic guitars, an excellent vocalist and very inspired flute passages complete the set. The result is a nostalgic flash-back to the roots of the italian prog. A must for fans of this country's very best!
Orphaned Land is a progressive metal band from Petah Tikva, Israel, formed in 1991. They combine oriental elements and traditional Jewish folk music with extreme progressive metal sound.
Their album Sahara (1994) was the first to include a combination of death metal and traditional oriental music. In their second album El Norra Alila (1996), Orphaned Land elaborated the combination of metal and oriental music, including the addition of song with traditional oriental Jewish piyyut and Arab melodies. This album conveyed a message of co-existence between Jews and Muslims…
Tenor saxophonist Scott Hamilton is in typically fine form on his third album as a leader for Concord. While Hamilton is equally skillful on ballads and hot stomps, cornetist Warren Vache sometimes takes a few too many chances on the uptempo material although one admires his brave attempts; he fares best on "Darn That Dream." Singer Sue Melikian sounds fine on two short vocals, but it is the instrumentals by the sextet (which includes guitarist Chris Flory and pianist Norman Simmons) that are most memorable.
US band Product is a collaboration between Arman Christoff Boyles (vocals, guitar, keyboards) and Scott Rader (drums, Bass). They hooked up in Los Angeles in 1990, but it wasn't until 1999 that they had finalized plans for the creation of a series of concept albums; utilizing the elements of Earth, Air, Fire and Water as inspirations as well as historical figures. The debut album "On Water" was issued in 2000, and the series continued with "Aire" in 2003, "The Fire" in 2005 and finally "Earth" in 2008. Based on the life of Harry Houdini and his interaction with the spiritualist movement, "Aether" (2013) is the fifth concept album by Arman Christoff Boyles and Scott Rader.
