A group of people around the world are suddenly linked mentally, and must find a way to survive being hunted by those who see them as a threat to the world's order.

In September 2021, Warner Bros. confirmed that Johnny Klimek and Tom Tykwer would be scoring the film, having previously collaborated with Wachowski on Sense8 and Cloud Atlas, replacing Don Davis, who composed the score for the first three films. The song "White Rabbit" by Jefferson Airplane is prominently featured in the trailer. Wachowski said the choice of "White Rabbit" for the trailer not only was in reference to the Alice's Adventures in Wonderland elements that The Matrix had previously used and which "White Rabbit" is based on, but also a nod to Jefferson Airplane themselves which was formed as a house band for The Matrix club in San Francisco. The second trailer featured an eletronic/orchestral rendition of the song "Wake Up" by Rage Against the Machine, which featured prominently at the end of the first Matrix film.

A gritty blues-rock outfit with vintage soul and classic rock influences, Cleveland's Welshly Arms formed in 2013 around the talents of singer/guitarist Sam Getz, keyboardist/singer Brett Lindemann, bassist/singer Jimmy Weaver, and drummer Mikey Gould. Their 2013 debut EP, Welcome, showed a band deeply indebted to their hometown's rock & roll heritage, from the James Gang and the Black Keys to the O'Jays. A covers EP released the following year saw Welshly Arms taking on classics by Deep Purple, the Chambers Brothers, and Golden Earring as their reputation grew around the Midwest.

BMG will release as soundtrack album for the German television series Babylon Berlin. The album features the show’s original music composed by Johnny Klimek & Tom Tykwer (Cloud Atlas, Run Lola Run, The International, Sense8, Perfume: The Story of a Murderer). Also included are tracks by The Bryan Ferry Orchestra, Moka Efti Orchestra, Tim Fischer & more. The soundtrack will be released digitally and physically on November 24, 2017 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Babylon Berlin is co-created and -directed by Tykwer and stars Volker Bruch, Liv Lisa Fries, Matthias Brandt, Hannah Herzsprung, Karl Markovics, Lars Eidinger and Sebastian Urzen. The drama is based on Volker Kutscher’s book Der nasse Fisch and follows a police inspector caught up in a web of drugs, sex, political intrigue and murder in go-go Berlin as Germany teeters on the edge of Nazism. The period drama premiered last week on Sky Germany and will debut in the U.S. on Netflix in 2018.
