For the first time together on one release the career spanning collection from the birth of Visage in 1978 to the final tracks from Steve Strange and Visage before his untimely death in 2015. Visage began in 1978 when Steve Strange and Blitz Club partner-in-crime, Rusty Egan, joined forces with Midge Ure to create a futuristic, synthesizer-led group where style and fashion were matched with experimental, yet accessible music. They recorded their first demos in EMIs Manchester Square studios and soon honed a futuristic, synthesizer-based sound. They recorded their first single "Tar" with Martin Rushent at his Genetic Studio in 1978 (shortly to become the birthplace of the Human League's "Dare" album).
For her third ECM album, Israeli pianist Anat Fort augments her long-established trio – with bassist Gary Wang and drummer Roland Schneider – with a special guest: Italian reedman Gianluigi Trovesi. Fort and Trovesi have made a number of appearances together in recent years, to critical acclaim, and Birdwatching, with its lively, bright music, takes their rapport to the next level. There is an alertness and a joyful quality in the playing, both in the articulation of melodies and in the improvised passages. “I’d followed Gianluigi Trovesi on many records over the years,” says Anat, “and always loved his musical spirit.” Fort and Trovesi first played together in duo at Italy’s Novara Festival, after which Gianluigi came to Israel and participated for the first time in concerts with Anat’s trio at the Opera house in Tel-Aviv.

James Newton Howard has respectfully paid homage to the great John William's theme from the original Harry Potter and you have to get a little bit excited when the score begins with that iconic music. After that wink to Williams, Howard slowly develops an astounding orchestral score that demonstrates a expansive variety of musical tones: whimsical, nostalgic, energetic and sometimes even very creepy. His range as a composer is commendable and this score clearly shows his talent to accompany emotions portrayed in the film, whatever these may be. I hear shades of Malificent (outstanding score) and King Kong here, which is thrilling. Some of the Harry Potter scores are amazing and a few are not. I'm hopeful that Howard will sign on for all the remaining scores for this new film franchise because if this first score is any indication of what's coming, we can all anticipate the upcoming scores with eagerness.
