Box set focusing on the live recordings of Dire Straits, released to coincide with the 40th anniversary of their show at Hammersmith in 1983, immortalised in the live album 'Alchemy'. The set features newly remastered versions of 'Alchemy' and 'On the Night', an expanded version of 'Alchemy' featuring the existing digital/CD tracklist which includes 'Love Over Gold' and the extended versions of 'Telegraph Road', 'Solid Rock' and 'Going Home', with the addition of the full-length performance of 'Portobello Belle' (an edit of which was released on the 'Money for Nothing' compilation in 1998) as well as the unreleased songs from the performance - 'Industrial Disease' and 'Twisting By the Pool'; An expanded version of 'On the Night' includes tracks performed during the tour which have never been released, taken from multitrack recordings of shows in Nimes, Rotterdam and Paris: 'Tunnel Of Love', 'Telegraph Road', 'Sultans of Swing', 'Two Young Lovers', 'When It Comes to You', 'I Think I Love You Too Much'; The EP 'Encores' (remastered for Black Friday 2021); Licenced 1995 collection 'Live At The BBC'; The unreleased Dire Straits 'Live from the Rainbow Theatre' show, 1979 - mixed by Guy Fletcher, and featuring guest performances from Phil Lynott and Tony de Meur on the last four tracks of the set; Brand new booklet featuring a new essay by journalist Paul Sexton - 'Making Milestones: The Momentous Road Years of Dire Straits'.

Live at the BBC is a live album by British rock band Dire Straits, released on 26 June 1995 on Vertigo Records internationally, and by Warner Bros. Records in the United States. The album was recorded on 22 July 1978 at BBC Studios in London, with one track recorded on 31 January 1981. The studio versions of the first six songs were released on Dire Straits. Live at the BBC was the band’s third live album, preceded by Alchemy: Dire Straits Live (1984) and On the Night (1993).

Previously the Alchemy - Dire Straits Live album (recorded live at at Hammersmith Odeon in London) was released on LP and CD in 1983, and on VHS in 1984. Now, the picture and sound have been digitally remastered in high definition (DVD & Blu-Ray) and 5.1 surround sound (DTS & DTS HD Master). The original tapes was remixed by Mark's co-pilot Chuck Ainlay.

Always a quiet act, Dire Straits dissolved quietly in 1995 as Mark Knopfler prepared his first full-fledged solo album. Meanwhile, this documentary effort, the group's third live recording, appeared to chronicle their early days. Most of it was recorded in July 1978, so it is, in effect, a concert version of the self-titled debut album. Tacked on at the end is a 12-minute version of "Tunnel of Love" from 1981, bringing the total time to 46 minutes. It's a modest effort from a modest band and, in that sense, a better representation of them than Alchemy or On the Night, both of which reflected their worldwide popularity. ~Allmusic
