Simian Mobile Disco

2017 sees the 10-year anniversary of Simian Mobile Disco’s debut album, Attack Decay Sustain Release, and to celebrate, Wichita Records are releasing both the original LP, remastered and on double vinyl for the first time ever, along with a collection of B-Sides and rare tracks from the Attack Decay Sustain Release era available digitally for the first time, and also a special digital compilation Anthology: 10 Years Of SMD, featuring tracks selected by the duo from across their whole catalogue, showcasing the continuous aesthetic thread that runs through their diverse body of work.

For those who remember Simian Mobile Disco from their best-known albums, 2007 debut ‘Attack Decay Sustain Release’ and its followup, ‘Temporary Pleasure’, ‘Murmurations’ might come as something of a surprise. But fans who’ve kept up with their experimental production in the intervening years know that this is a duo who eschew anything close to a signature sound in favour of exploring techniques outside of their, and their listeners’, comfort zones. Named after undulating formations of starlings, sixth album ‘Murmurations’ is about movement and space as much as their earlier albums were about minimalism and melody; from start to finish, it has the feel of sounds bouncing off the walls of a vast chamber.

Penguin Cafe are ready to release new album The Imperfect Sea featuring covers of Kraftwerk and Simian Mobile Disco. The band was formed in 2009 by Arthur Jeffes, son of the late Penguin Cafe Orchestra founder Simon Jeffes.
The Penguin Cafe Orchestra’s whimsical orchestral pop made them a favorite among Balearic DJs, with their track ‘Music For A Found Harmonium’ appearing on the first Cafe Del Mar compilation in 1994.
