Alternately psychedelic, progressive, and hard rock-styled, the eclectic German band Grobschnitt became one of the most popular live acts in German history. The group recorded several lauded albums in the 1970s, moving between styles before switching to more mainstream pop and rock in the 1980s. Meanwhile, in part thanks to drummer Joachim Ehrig, the group added touches of absurdist humor to their records and live shows…
This 2008 album firmly established their reputation with the critics and a growing audience. A refreshing follow-up album for hard-core jazz fans and a broad group of listeners from other genres simply interested in the melodies and grooves. The Tingvall Trio, led by pianist Martin Tingvall, are often compared to the legendary Esbjorn Svensson Trio (E.S.T.) due to the exuberant energy and clarity of their music, and because Martin is also Swedish. However, their subtle jazz-rock approach employs a totally acoustic, non-electronic sound.
Following "Skagerrak" and "Norr" the Tingvall Trio finalizes their trilogy of Nordic stories with "Vattensaga". This 2009 release was recorded at the famous Arte Suono studio in Italy, best known for a series of great ECM recordings, the album boasts impeccable sound and the outstanding song-writing qualities of Martin Tingvall. Thirteen new musical pearls, featuring the sound paintings of drummer Jürgen Spiegel , the Mediterranean lightness of double bass player Omar Rodruguez Calvo and the dazzling piano playing of Martin Tingvall (here experiencing a Fazioli grand piano for the first time). A definite highlight of the trio’s recording history so far.
Swedish composer Martin Tingvall's vivaciously rock-powered piano trio have a fanbase all over Europe, and in Dubai and South Africa, too. Now they are aiming to break Britain and the US, as the late Esbjorn Svensson's EST did. This album, their fourth, made the pop charts in Sweden and Germany, and features much of the catchily singable material they played on their UK debut last year.
The Tingvall Trio, led by pianist Martin Tingvall, are often compared to the legendary Esbjorn Svensson Trio (E.S.T.) due to the exuberant energy and clarity of their music, and because Martin is also Swedish. His trio partners are : Cuban bass-player Omar Rodriguez Calvo (who has worked with Roy Hargrove and Ramon Valle), and German drummer Jürgen Spiegel, who studied with Bill Stewart and Cindy Blackman. Martin was a student of Bobo Stenson. Recorded during their European tour, in autumn 2012, 78½ minutes of pure energy and invention, featuring tracks from their previous 4 albums.
