On 5th of May 2018 we in I Am The Manic Whale unleashed our second album Gathering The Waters in its live form on an eager public at the Oakwood Centre in Woodley. The album had been released six months earlier, but many of the songs had never been played in front of an audience before. We were also able to play a large portion of our previous album, Everything Beautiful In Time. It was the first time we had worked with lighting and visuals expert Howard Boder and the visuals in particular added an extra dimension to the show.

The EP title comes from the meaning of Miraceti, which is a variable star in the constellation of the Whale. We are pleased to present you "Whale Space Journeys", the release of one of the founders of our record label. Special thanks to JaraLuca for support and for Red Sun Rising for cooperation. Mastering by AstroPilot.
"There's an English adjective "laidback" which describes something that's very relaxing, peaceful & dreamy. When I first heard Miraceti's EP I though it's perfect for lying on one's back, ideally outdoors under the sky full of stars to just drift away, forgetting - at least momentarily - all the worries & problems of every day. First, beatless track sets the mood in: amazonian jungle, chirping birds, frogs…

The bulk of the Sydney vocalist and producer's catalogue covers his work in local groups Collarbones (with Travis Cook) and BV (with Jared Beeler and Lavurn Lee AKA Cassius Select). Whale's first full release under his given name is co-produced by Nigel Yang of HTRK, and sees him venturing into more delicate and introspective territory, touching on themes of "race, gender and sexuality" according to the label. Whale himself goes on to explain: "Having spent years cultivating musical divergences through pop music, experimental music, contemporary classical music, dance music, Inland Sea is all about convergence, using all of these languages simultaneously.

Recorded in 1973 but only released the following year, "Desert Places" displays a wild mix of styles and influences, ranging from Jethro Tull (title track Desert Places) to Deep Purple, with a light sprinkling of krautrock "motorik". The musicianship however is never less than highly competent, making this record a highly prized prog rarity. Satin Whale's Desert Places was a fantastic heavy-prog effort, performing a mix of blues, hard rock and slight jazz, tempered by a stunning guitar, killer swirling organ and hard driven bass and drum. All the tracks are extremely energetic and well played. "Seasons of life and Remember" are the highlights of the album. HEAVY KRAUT PROG KILLER !! Fantastic Album !!

First album by this rather late Krautrock band was undoubtedly their very best one. Actually the only point of criticism one could quote is the fact that it might have sounded already a bit dated in its year of release. Being much in the vein of early Tull, Iron Butterfly, Cream or The Doors the tracks presented here are a wonderful demonstration of this early Art Rock or Proto-Prog style. The title song is the one reminding the most to Tull with a soaring flute and heavy organ. It’s a very powerful and grooving one with a sort of psychedelic blues guitar play that’s bringing Cream back to mind. “Seasons Of Life” is even in a stronger psychedelic vein, kinda The Doors meet Cream or Iron Butterfly, very groovin’ stuff as well. This record doesn’t let your foot stand still only for one second. Though it might be not considered as that much progressive for the year of 1974 “Desert Places” was nevertheless a brilliant album in organ driven Art Rock typical for beginning seventies.
