"This heady blend of instrumental pop covers, fuzzed-up guitars and sitar is a kitsch blast from start to finish. Featuring the cream of LA's session players alongside sitar virtuoso Harihar Rao (Ravi Shankar's senior disciple), it was originally released in 1966 and makes its long-overdue CD debut here, showing itself to be the first and best ‘sitarsploitation’ album ever recorded."

There is nothing better than wishful thinking. Why is that so really? It only causes heart aches and unnecessary pain as it would never come to be. Even so, to entertain your mind on something, particularly with a zero chance of falling into place, is rather the source of hope. We are living in a crazy world and everything can happen. The running Hard Rockin’ foursome of ELECTRIC GUITARS thought that it would be nice to share one of their aspirations for their local scene in Denmark. That is highly considerate of them. Therefore, they decided to write about and call their newly released album based on their wish, “Rock N’ Roll Radio”, and on the the back of the local Mighty Music. You are probably thinking to yourself why Radio in 2017? From my end, I believe that it is the best point of entry, and you have to start from the basics.

Ministry Of Rock 2 was put together with one goal in mind: to create a virtual (software) instrument capable of producing sounds that could actually produce a hit record or film score without any live drum, bass, or guitar overdubs. The articulations and programming were all reverse engineered from actual performances. The 57 gigabyte collection features LIVE technology that enables multi-sampled drums to sound like a live performance.

The Folkswingers, a studio-only group comprised of a changeable cast of top Los Angeles session musicians, had issued a couple of instrumental LPs showcasing the 12-string guitar before leaping on the raga-rock bandwagon with Raga Rock in 1966. Give the World Pacific label a little credit, though: at least they jumped on that bandwagon real fast, almost right after the term "raga-rock" was first used. Plus, the record did employ the cream of the cream from the L.A. rock session world, with Hal Blaine on drums; Larry Knechtel on keyboards; Tommy Tedesco, Howard Roberts, and Herb Ellis on guitar; and Lyle Ritz and Bill Pittman on bass. And it did at least have an actual sitar, courtesy of Harihar Rao, leader of Los Angeles' Ravi Shankar Music Circle and director of the Indian Studies Group at UCLA's Institute of Ethnomusicology…

Subtitled A TRIBUTE TO ITALIAN PROGRESSIVE ROCK OF THE SEVENTIES, this release employs numerous prog artists who were current in 1997 (many of them Italian) to interpret 49 tracks from the classic Italian progressive bands of the 1970's. This release is similar to Musea Records' joint projects with the magazine Collosus, but instead of focusing on epic myths and folk tales, the reference to Zarathustra in this boxed set's title is intended to invoke the name of Museo Rosenbach's groundbreaking release of the same name. Packaged in a large, hardback book-style case, with the first two discs mounted in digi-trays on the left side, and discs 3 and 4 mounted on the right side, there is a colorful, 40 page insert mounted in the middle, which provides discographic information about each of the performing artists, as well as the origins of each track. This project was incredibly well done. With several pages of essays, mostly in Italian (except for a short note in English by Scott McGill of Finneus Gauge), the track listings, and other information is in English. The thick, mounted insert is also well illustrated. Among the artists covered in this collection are Premiata Forneria Marconi (PFM), Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso, Pierrot Lunaire, Quella Vecchia Locanda, Le Orme, Goblin, Osanna, and many others.
