The Light is the debut album from Spock's Beard, the Culver City, CA neo-prog rock band whose sprawling exercises in technical proficiency and suite-like compositions made them an underground legend almost immediately. One has to understand that The Light is nothing at all akin to anything being done in the mid-'90s. Yes hadn't yet made their full comeback, and the memories of Genesis with Peter Gabriel faded ever more pervasively form view with each subsequent Phil Collins solo release. Here are four sprawling, knotty, syncopated tunes, two of them, the title track and "The Water," are multiple-part suites that encompass no less than 48 minutes of the album's 67 minutes.
Formed in 2008, AGENTS OF MERCY was originally a side-project by Roine Stolt (guitars, bass, vocals) of The Flower Kings fame, whrere the goal was to create a low key, mostly acoustic based type of music…
Magic Pie has become a household name for progfans around the world with their blend of classic prog and 70’s hard rock inspired by bands such as Spocks Beard, Dream Theater, Genesis, Pink Floyd, The Flower Kings, Transatlantic, Kansas, Deep Purple, Yes etc. Fronted by bandleader and guitar supremo Kim Stenberg, the band are known for their epic, energetic, melodic and sometimes heavy prog rock with splendid vocal harmonies and great musicianship.
"King For A Day" (2015) manages to pull together all that is modern day progressive rock, with a healthy nod to the '70s of course, but satisfying fully those who crave musical complexity as well as enchanting, memorable melodies.
"Static" is Dave Kerzner's follow up studio solo album to his acclaimed debut "New World". It's a progressive rock concept album and a "rock opera" about the distractions, chaos and clutter in everyday life and about navigating past this "static interference" in our heads toward clarity and happiness. The album features Kerzner on vocals, keyboards and guitars and he is joined by top musicians including Steve Hackett (Genesis), Fernando Perdomo (Jakob Dylan), Derek Cintron (DC3), Nick D'Virgilio (Big Big Train, Spocks Beard), Randy McStine (The Fringe), Matt Dorsey (Sound of Contact), Durga McBroom (Pink Floyd), Alex Cromarty (Mostly Autumn), Stuart Fletcher (Sea Horses), Colin Edwin (Porcupine Tree) and more…
Udo Lang: "I'm the guitarist of Chandelier. We've made 3 albums and played a lot of concerts, some with Jadis, Fish or Spocks Beard. I love doing music. Like Paul McCartney sais, making music is like breathing. I love composing new songs and recording them. So these are the songs I wrote, played and recorded on my own. If you like songs whith more than 2 parts and more than 4 chords you are right. Here are my latest songs I recorded in the last years. Some instrumental, some with vocals. I'm very proud of it, because it's the way I wanted it to be. There are some classical influences, I hope you can hear it. Maybe it´s a bit progressive, for me it´s fun music."
