A few years after the success of her album crossing Baroque music with folk, Love I Obey (ALPHA538), the Franco-American singer Rosemary Standley visits Schubert, this time with the complicity of the Ensemble Contraste: ‘We all have a few notes of Schubert buried deep inside us’ say the artists, who have got together around his music and brought to it an original sound texture, the result of their varied influences – classical, pop, jazz, folk.

Birds on a Wire is an enchanting voice and cello duo formed by French-American singer Rosemary Standley (with multinational France-based alt-folk band Moriarty) and young Brazilian singer, songwriter and cellist Dominique Pinto aka Dom la Nena. Initiated by Rosemary Standley in 2011 as “Rosemary’s Songbook”, the project evolved into the Birds on a Wire duo when the producer of Madamelune an independent Paris-based stage and music production company introduced her to Dom La Nena.

Look back over the classical releases of the past few years and you’ll see a trend emerging. Sitting somewhere at the junction of folk music, early music, bluegrass, jazz and even pop, it includes albums like Andreas Scholl’s ‘Wayfaring Stranger’ (Decca, 1/02), Apollo’s Fire’s ‘Come to the River’ (Avie), Anonymous 4’s wonderful ‘1865’ (Harmonia Mundi, 2/15), most of L’Arpeggiata and even Concerto Caledonia’s ‘Purcell’s Revenge’ (Delphian – see below).
