Introduction to conjugacy problems for difieomorphisms. This is a survey article on the area of global analysis defined by differentiable dynamical systems or equivalently the action (differentiable) of a Lie group G on a manifold M. An action is a homomorphism G-Diff(M) such that the induced map GXM-M is differentiable. Here Diff(M) is the group of all diffeomorphisms of M and a diffeomorphism is a differentiable map with a differentiable inverse. Everything will be discussed here from the C«> or C" point of view. All manifolds maps, etc. will be differentiable (Cr, 1;;:; r ~ 00) unless stated otherwise.

This book serves as a basis for the exploration of language in a more systematic way. The main impetus for writing this book derives from the fact that linguistics and semiotics are two fields of study that need to be brought together under one compass because language is what is known as the “passkey semiotic,” i.e. the system of signs that underlies all other sign systems owing to its foundational status. Due to the current balkanization of linguistics as an academic discipline, the academic study of language structure rarely if ever incorporates the insights of semiotics and semioticians when presenting its material.

The model for this work was the description of the physical world by mathemati­ cal laws. It were always the simplest phenomena which were treated by this scientific method. Physicists studied simple motions inorder to find the mathematical laws. Astronomists observed the orbits of planets in order to find the laws of gravity. One of the simplest measurable phenomenon in the brain is the stimulus­ response task. Suchtasks have beenknown since the lastcentury bypsychiatrists and psycholo­ gists (v. Helmholtz).

A lot has been written about the history of the universe, from the Big Bang through the evolution of galaxies and stars, to the eventual appearance of life and intelligence.
