The author of the story of a science must be guided by the constraints and demands imposed on him by the definition of "science" itself. A science is more than a body of knowledge expounded in original papers and collected in books; it is the active pursuit of this knowledge by a dedicated group of people ( scientists) who are devoted to this '' great adventure'' by an inner drive that they cannot deny.

The model for this work was the description of the physical world by mathemati­ cal laws. It were always the simplest phenomena which were treated by this scientific method. Physicists studied simple motions inorder to find the mathematical laws. Astronomists observed the orbits of planets in order to find the laws of gravity. One of the simplest measurable phenomenon in the brain is the stimulus­ response task. Suchtasks have beenknown since the lastcentury bypsychiatrists and psycholo­ gists (v. Helmholtz).

A lot has been written about the history of the universe, from the Big Bang through the evolution of galaxies and stars, to the eventual appearance of life and intelligence.

The last twenty years have seen remarkable developments in our understanding of how the ancient Greek thinkers handled the general concept of being and its several varieties. The most general examination of the meaning of the Greek verb 'esti'/'einai'/'on' both in common usage and in the philosophical literature has been presented by Charles H. Kahn, most extensively in his 1973 book The Verb 'Be' in Ancient Greek.
