Beethoven’s nine symphonies are not only the most famous in the whole of music history, they are the pillars of our canon of western symphonic music. Although Beethoven was born 250 years ago, his symphonies have not lost any of their relevance, and even contemporary composers still measure themselves against this musical giant.

Antoni Katski (1816–1899) was an excellent pianist, prolific composer, educator, representative of a musically talented family, and multidimensional artist, enjoying fame and recognition in Europe, who, despite his enormous influence on the development of the 19th-century musical culture, is now completely forgotten, both in Poland and worldwide.

Described as having ‘natural genius’, John Abraham Fisher (1744–1806) was a significant figure in London during the second half of the 18th century. A virtuoso violinist, he also wrote admired stage works for the Theatre Royal, Covent Garden. His orchestral works are largely forgotten today, but his symphonies display a surprising awareness of contemporary continental trends in their use of dynamic variations, revealing the influence of the Mannheim School. Possessing a richness of colour, contrast and surprise, these symphonies typify Fisher’s expanding Classical style.

Born in 1968, the Swiss composer Richard Dubugnon writes music that has been described as 'driven by a playful modern sensibility' (New York Times). His work list includes all genres, from solo pieces to large orchestral works, such as the Helvetia Symphony, scored for the same forces as Stravinsky's Rite of Spring.
