Steve Tibbetts is the thinking-man's guitar player whose music spans a host of influences – folk, jazz, rock, ethnic, modern classical – without being bound by any of them. Opening with a tabla-driven folksy cover of Led Zeppelin's "Black Mountain Slide," the album leads us through a collection of original pieces written by Tibbetts and his band members that are full of rich tone colors and inventive rhythms. His main instrument is acoustic guitar, but he also uses guitar synth, dobro, kalimba and something called a pianolin, while his colleagues add tabla, cello, steel drums and assorted percussion.

For all the agony as to the status of classical music in the modern musical landscape, the three 20th century string quartets on this fine French release can be said to have entered the repertory, with a reach that extends far beyond the U.S. They go quite well together, which is the first point in favor of France's Quatuor Diotima here; both Steve Reich's Different Trains, for string quartet and tape, and George Crumb's Black Angels for electric quartet feature an artificially enhanced string quartet, and even Samuel Barber elected to "enhance" his String Quartet in B minor, Op. 11, by orchestrating its central movement and making it into the famous Adagio for strings. Highly recommended.

The concept of this album is about the relation between human and the Wolf. Also important is the hours before dawn, because it's the time that the wolf are hunting and that Steve Hackett like to write his songs. It's a unique time to let things comes naturally without any distractions…

Ten songs totalling 30 minutes of music from the eve of Steve Howe's emergence as one of the world's most famous guitar players. The singing isn't much, and the songwriting (apart from the excellent "Black Leather Gloves," written by Clive Skinner, and the group composed "Tired Towers") lacks some lyricism and tunefulness, but Howe's playing is filled with virtuoso melodic flourishes that almost make up for this shortcoming. His guitar carries songs like Curtis's "I Want You," and if you close your eyes on some of the other cuts, it's easy to imagine some of his work grafted onto songs from his first two Yes albums; one can also imagine some of this as demos by Peter Banks' group Flash. But overall this CD reveals Bodast as a band that needed something distinctive besides its axeman, and didn't have it, either in its personnel or their songwriting abilities.

Been Here And Gone is another diverse set list from Steve Howell and The Mighty Men. Ranging from country blues to rhythm and blues and '60's hits to Appalachian traditional music, this collection of vocals and instrumentals is held together by the stripped-down musical conversation going on inside the playing of the band members. This group of veteran Southern journeymen find a deeply common thread in their renditions of great American music in a way seldom accented these days producing satisfying tributes to great songs and melodies. Been Here And Gone is a wonderful addition to their existing catalog of critically acclaimed music and is a first-class offering.

Stephen Richard "Steve" Hackett is an English musician, songwriter and singer. He gained prominence as lead guitarist of the British progressive rock group Genesis, which he joined in 1970 and left in 1977 to pursue a solo career. This album has been described by Hackett himself as his best work. His impressive and varied solo career has now entered its 40th year and covered various genres from blues to classical, as well as a significant number of albums widely regarded by many as bone-fide prog rock classics, so this is no small boast. Happily, it turns out to be exactly right.

Digitally remastered 3CD set with tracks from all phases of the recording career of the man who fronted both Small Faces & Humble Pie. As a successful child actor, he played the Artful Dodger in the musical Oliver! as a teen. He met bassist Ronnie Lane and joined his band The Pioneers, who morphed into the greatest Mod band, The Small Faces. They reeled off a series of smash hits, including "All Or Nothing", "Itchycoo Park", "Tin Soldier" and "Lazy Sunday", as well as the 1968 classic LP 'Ogden's Nut Gone Flake'. A disillusioned Marriott left the band, recruited ex-Herd guitarist Peter Frampton to form the hard-rock combo Humble Pie. Their debut single "Natural Born Bugie," cracked the UK Top 5 and achieved success in the U.S. before they disbanded in 1975.He then took on other musical projects until his death in 1991 and some of those are included in this set.
