Denmark’s four leading composers – Poul Ruders, Per Nørgård, Bent Sørensen and Hans Abrahamsen - have allowed the experimental trio Alpha to take their music behind the looking glass and let their works re-emerge in the trio’s very own sound world. Played and recorded entirely by heart, Alpha’s close encounter with the musical essences of seven different works seems to reveal the form and richness of each composer’s imagination in a new magical reflection.

It was co-produced with Mike Hedges and released in March 1987 on Polydor. Through the Looking Glass was preceded by the single "This Wheel's on Fire". It was the second and final album recorded with guitarist John Valentine Carruthers. Most of the songs were from artists who had influenced them: Roxy Music, John Cale, Iggy Pop, the Doors and Kraftwerk.

With material produced by names such as Jon Bon Jovi, Danny Kortchmar, and Jimmy Iovine, Stevie Nicks' solo work singled her out as a prominent artist outside of her glory days with Fleetwood Mac. With a remarkable 11 Top 40 singles that spawned from only four solo albums, not including 1994's Street Angel, Nicks proved that her sometimes fragile, sometimes pleasingly sharp voice could stand up well without the backing of Lindsay Buckingham's revered guitar work. Timespace groups together her biggest songs and makes for a favorable compilation of her material. Only a few of her charted singles are left off Timespace, like 1982's "After the Glitter Fades" and "Needles and Pins," the other duet with Tom Petty.

Expanding their duo into a sextet with the addition of strings, piano and voice, Ikue and Zeena have created a compelling and varied soundscape inspired by fairy stories the world over. Combining plucked and bowed strings, sinuous vocals, driving percussion and Ikue Mori’s trademark electronics into a balanced and unified whole, Through the Looking-glass is a kaleidoscope of exotic and beautiful sonorties filled with drama, mystery and a modern orchestral sweep.

This three-disc retrospective contains eight never-before-available tracks, twenty b-sides, live and soundtrack cuts and twelve top 40 hits, including "Whenever I Call You Friend."
The California girl who wanted to be a Welsh witch has always been best when her mysticism and mooniness has been offset by harder-headed collaborators. Though this box set doesn't include the Fleetwood Mac stuff that made her name, it does pull together curious stuff she's done elsewhere: pre-Mac work with Lindsey Buckingham from the Buckingham Nicks days, duets with the likes of Tom Petty and Don Henley, and a few soundtrack numbers. The first two discs have everything worth saving from her five solo albums (actually, one disc would have done that too, though "Edge of Seventeen" appears in a live version rather than the hit), plus some B-sides, and the third has rarities and obscurities, including an enlightening demo of "Rhiannon." –Douglas Wolk

Back in 2008, former Wishbone Ash bassist/vocalist Martin Turner came up with the idea of re-recording the immortal "Argus" record with his then current band consisting of Ray Hatfield, Keith Buck, Rob Hewins, and Danny Willson. The legendary John Wetton (Asia, Uriah Heep, Wishbone Ash) and Yes keyboardist Geoff Downes also make an appearance on one track. However, the intention was to approach the aforementioned album from a slightly different angle with respect to the technology used to record it and each individual musician's contribution to the song material…
