An echo of the luxuriant performance at the 2018 Salzburg Festival, where this recording was made, this new version of the Coronation of Poppea by Claudio Monteverdi, conducted by William Christie (who had already recorded the piece once before, at a concert in Madrid, with production by Pier-Luigi Pizzi, in 2010) met with unanimous acclaim thanks to its exceptional musical execution. A distribution to die for, dominated by Sonja Yoncheva's voluptuous interpretation of the titular role, and fabulous instrumentation from the Arts Florissants, led by Christie, with no fancy tricks, from the vantage point of his harpsichord. These ingredients all add up to a very high quality production to mark the fortieth anniversary of the ensemble, which was founded in 1979.

The culmination of a three-year Monteverdi project led by conductor William Christie and director Pier Luigi Pizzi at Madrid’s Teatro Réal, L’incoronazione di Poppea brings a potent blend of sex and politics, high drama and comedy. Leading the cast are Danielle de Niese as Poppea, Philippe Jaroussky as Nerone, Max Emanuel Cencic as Ottone and Anna Bonitatibus as Ottavia.

Featuring a colossal 330 remastered tracks, the unique box set includes 14 original studio albums, a compilation of live performances, and two discs' worth of previously unpublished rarities and demos alongside posthumous material recorded with the help of Jean Bertola.

The first complete recording of the rarely performed Naples version from 1651 of Claudio Monteverdi's L'incoronazione di Poppea convinces with great joy of playing and shows the well-known story about love, seduction and power in a new light.

Baldassarre Galuppi (1706-1785), a Venetian composer who, besides working in various Italian cities (but never in Naples, despite the great success his operas enjoyed in that city), went to London in 1741 (Haymarket Theatre) and to St. Petersburg in 1768, summoned by Catherine of Russia to be her court chapel-master. Once back in Venice, he ended his long and fruitful life bathed in honors, working mostly on sacred music. Although his production was extremely varied (for instance, his harpsichord compositions), Galuppi was known above all for his operas. Active and prolific in both types of Italian traditional musical theatre, this composer - known as Buranello from the island in the Venetian lagoon where he was born - gave his best work to comic opera, to which he was able to impose his very personal style.

Both the music and text differ from the earlier, ‘Venice’ version from 1643 in many places, enabling the story of Poppea and the Emperor Nero to be experienced in a fresh and thrilling way. Beautifully played on historical instruments by the Cantus Firmus Consort under the direction of Andreas Reize, who is the new Thomaskantor in Leipzig since September 2021, this elaborate CD production was created within the framework of the production at Waldegg Castle / Solothurn in summer 2021.

For the second volume in his Couperin series, keyboard virtuoso Bertrand Cuiller paints a portrait of a young Couperin who, at the age of only seventeen, was appointed organist of Saint-Gervais in Paris - a prestigious position to attain at any age. It was also a position that soon translated into his appointment as organist of the king and harpsichord master of the royal children. Couperin's compositions from this period are marked by a surprising maturity of writing. Bertrand Cuiller's eloquent performances reveal all the diversity and color present in these works.
