Heartbeat is an album by Curtis Mayfield. This 1979 offering mixed disco rhythms with soul balladeering. Future Temptation Ron Tyson contributed to some of the songwriting and production. "Tell Me, Tell Me (How Ya Like to be Loved)" was remixed for a 12" by Fred Breitberg and Michael Hearn and the duet with Linda Clifford "Between You Baby and Me", edited as a single, was also issued on The right combination, an album of duets between both singers released in 1980. It's the first Mayfield album he didn't produce entirely.
His best overall Columbia album. Tyrone Davis surprised many observers when the title cut smashed the embargo non-Southern urban contemporary stations had on soul music and soared into the Top 10, peaking at number six. The rest of the album was a bit slick by past Davis' standards, but even the sappiest numbers were performed with Davis' customary grit and soulfulness.
Love City album for sale by Ronn Matlock was released Mar 26, 2013 on the Warner Bros. label. Though journalist-turned-crooner-songwriter Ronn Matlock is not known to many fans of '70s soul, his lone album is evidence of an overlooked talent.
Their second album, the self-titled Touch of Class included their version of "Turn the Beat Around", a song written by Gerald and Pete Jackson and recorded by Vicki Sue Robinson in 1976 that gained big recognition and a big hit for her. the song is considered a dance/disco classic. It was also re-recorded by Laura Branigan in 1990 and by Gloria Estefan in 1994.
When the Commodores' seventh studio album, Midnight Magic, came out in 1979, one could safely assume that the LP would contain at least one adult contemporary ballad. And sure enough, Midnight Magic contains the ballad "Still," which was a number one pop hit (as well as a number one R&B hit) and became a staple on adult contemporary radio. The sappy ballad (which features Lionel Richie) wasn't without its detractors, who felt that the Commodores had become too much of a slick crossover act. But even if "Still" doesn't excite you, the rest of the album isn't bad. "Wonderland" (a number 21 R&B hit) is an enjoyable R&B slow jam, and fans of sophisticated funk (as opposed to hardcore funk) should appreciate "You're Special," "Gettin' It," and the disco-minded title song.
Bessie Regina Norris, better known by her stage name, Betty Wright (born December 21, 1953), is a Miami-based soul and R&B singer-songwriter, who rose to fame in the 1970s with hits such as "Clean Up Woman" and "Tonight is the Night".
Digitally remastered and expanded edition of the veteran Soulster's 1979 album. A veteran composer, vocalist, guitarist, and pianist, Prince Phillip Mitchell's roots are in vintage R&B, although he has achieved semi-cult status in Soul circles. Mitchell sang with both The Premiers and The Checkmates in the early '60s. He wrote hits recorded by Mel & Tim, Millie Jackson, Joe Simon, Archie Bell & The Drells and Candi Staton and Norman Connors. His second album for Atlantic, Top Of The Line, spawned the single 'Paying The Price' b/w 'Let's Get Wet' which fared modestly on the US R&B chart, but the second single 'I'm So Happy' became an anthem on the UK's Northern and Modern Soul scenes, and changes hands for exorbitant sums on the collector's market. A previously unreleased Northern Soul-styled instrumental "Take Me Away" is included on this remastered and expanded re-issue.
Short lived group, recorded only one album for Stax in 1979.
Angel was a '70s heavy metal band based on the East Coast featuring singer Frank DiMino, guitarist Punky Meadows, and keyboard player Gregg Giuffria. They had their biggest success in 1978 with the album White Hot, which featured their Top 50 cover of "Ain't Gonna Eat Out My Heart Anymore." The group broke up after the release of Can You Feel It, but had their work repackaged in several different collections…
