Herman's Hermits four UK albums for EMI's Columbia label, dating between 1965 and 1968. All albums were produced by Mickie Most and feature UK and US hits such as 'I'm Henry The Eighth I Am', Mrs Brown You've Got A Lovely Daughter', 'Listen People', 'No Milk Today', 'There's A Kind Of Hush', 'Dandy' and 'You Won't Be Leaving' Digitally remastered and slipcased. New notes.
Herman's Hermits were one of those odd 1960s groups who accumulated millions of fans, but precious little respect. Indeed, their status is remarkably similar to that of the Monkees, and it's not a coincidence that both groups' music was intended to appeal to younger teenagers. The difference is that as early as 1976, the Monkees began to be considered cool by people who really knew music…

The most known drummer of Hard lock legends SCORPIONS is back in town. Herman Rarebell, the man behind the German band's kit during their most 'classic' period, releases his newest solo album and - while listening to the CD for the x-th time - he seems rather in good mood to deliver some plain hard rockin' 'n' rollin' tunes that will surely not 'drive' some either crazy or bored…

Herman’s Hermits were one of the most commercially successful artists of the beat era. In a recording career which began in 1964 and spanned seven hectic years, Herman’s Hermits registered more than 30 worldwide chart entries and were undisputed hitmakers with a string of singles and albums in the top-10 and Grammy awards starting in 1965. They were also part of that hit-making machine cultivated by Mickie Most, who was one of the major forces in the flood of acts coming from the UK in the mid-1960s. They forged a successful career up until 1968 when rapidly changing pop trends dictated their demise which would finally happen in 1970. Their numerous visits to the Paris and Playhouse Theatres in London during their iconic heyday produced a vast number of sessions for radio broadcast and reveal a more authentic side to one of British pop music’s most endearing acts. London Calling proudly presents, Herman’s Hermits, live in session 1964 to 1968. Superb and professionally re-mastered original radio broadcasts with background liners, rare and original memorabilia and timeline photos.

When all is said and done regarding the most influential power pop bands of the '60s, Herman's Hermits and Tommy James & the Shondells emerge as the clear-cut winners for the same reason: Their music was so diverse and well constructed that it showed the different dimensions of a genre that inspired music smart enough to respect its roots which, in turn, inspired music too hip for its own good – the modern rock movement that was not half as much fun as "the new wave," or as essential as anything found on ABKCO's perennial release of Herman's Hermits' Their Greatest Hits.

While this fine double album is great to listen to, its real value is as a historical document. Bringing together the known recordings from a 1946 performance of Woody Herman and the Herd at Carnegie Hall (some of which have never been released, others of which were previously scattered across two albums), this album marks several important moments in the history of Herman's music and jazz in general. At the time of this performance, Carnegie Hall was still the exclusive bastion of classical music - though Herman's band had already played there, this performance still marked one of the first jazz concerts to be performed at the famed New York venue…

This set, which is the best of the Woody Herman Orchestra's Concord recordings, celebrates his 50th year as a bandleader, quite an accomplishment. No guest stars are needed for this set, which shows just how strong a big band he still had. With tenor-saxophonist Frank Tiberi gradually taking over leadership duties (today he leads the ghost Woody Herman Orchestra) and trombonist John Fedchock contributing the arrangements, the band was in fine shape even if the leader was aging. Whether it be "It Don't Mean a Thing," John Coltrane's "Central Park West" (a great arrangement) or Don Grolnick's "Pools," every selection is excellent.
