Kazumi Watanabe is a Japanese guitarist. He was born on October 14, 1953 in Tokyo, Japan. Watanabe learned guitar at the age of 12 from Sadanori Nakamure at the Yamaha Music School in Tokyo. He released his first album in 1971. In 1979, he formed a jazz rock band with some of Japan's leading studio musicians, and recorded the album Kylyn. During that year, he toured with the pop band Yellow Magic Orchestra.

Kazumi Watanabe (渡辺香津美) is a Japanese jazz fusion guitarist. He was born on October 14, 1953 in Tokyo, Japan. In the 1980s, he toured as guest soloist with Steps, the Brecker Brothers, and Word of Mouth, led by Jaco Pastorius. Watanable created the jazz-rock/jazz-fusion band Mobo in 1983 with Mitsuru Sawamura (saxophone), Ichiko Hashimoto (piano) , Gregg Lee (gutiar), Shuichi Murakami (drums), and Kiyohiko Senba.

Kazumi Watanabe was only 17 when his debut Infinite was released in 1971, with his display of guitar skills establishing him as a young prodigy. Kylyn is a 1979 fusion album by Kazumi Watanabe (actually released as an eponymous album by "Kylyn"). It was released in June 1979, whilst the recording sessions took place between April and May. Kylyn was also the name of Watanabe's group at the time, and at times it featured fellow Ryuichi Sakamoto on synths and keyboards. Sakamoto and Watanabe did work together for the album Tokyo Joe released the previous year.
