This 2 CD retrospective reflects over 60 years of Barbara Dane’s eclectic musical history in folk, blues and jazz. The 38 tracks include 14 never-before-released recordings, featuring collaborations with Lightin’ Hopkins, the Chambers Brothers, Doc Watson, Pete Seeger, Memphis Slim and Willie Dixon, Art Hodes, and more. The extensive liner notes give insight into Dane’s singular trajectory as an outspoken and indomitable artist who, unwilling to make the compromises demanded by the music business, struck out on her own path, singing for peace and social justice.

They performed at Woodstock in 1969 but Creedence Clearwater Revival were not celebrated, partly because they were not in the film or on the soundtrack albums. It may be due to the fact there were technical problems during their performance and the band were not happy with how they played. The Great Dane released this bootleg in 1989 so while this is in the early days of bootlegs in the digital format, this soundboard recording is good for what it is, even if it may have been a few generations down. It is possible that this was not properly mixed, so blame it on whatever reason but Woodstock '69 may explain why CCR didn't become a part of the Woodstock Generation, even though they were on stage surrounded by 500,000 people. Their performances of "Keep On Chooglin'" and "I Put A Spell On You" purely rocks.

Korey Dane grew up in Long Beach, California, as a skateboarder kid with a gearhead father and an English teacher mother and with a guitar he learned to love as he learned to play, letting a few inherited books and a handful of records lead him away from home and into the great American unknown. That’s where he found his last album Youngblood, born from months exploring and hitchhiking and putting songs together piece by piece, then presented as promise and potential to veteran producer and A&R man Tony Berg (X, Public Image Ltd.).
