Recording and touring together on and off for several years now, sonic journeyman DJ Vadim and Californian songwriter Katrina Blackstone unveil their long awaited full-length album 'Double Sided', released on BBE Music. After providing a pair of stellar guest appearances on Vadim's 2014 'Dubcatcher' album, Katrina Blackstone joined Vad on tour and the duo have been steadily laying down tracks ever since. Eschewing samples in favour of drum machines, guitars and a dizzying array of synths, Vadim's compositions on 'Double Sided' range from dubby downtempo grooves to upbeat afroboogie business. Katrina's crystal clear vocals, catchy melodies and highly relatable lyrics provide the perfect foil for Vadim's raw productions.

Music always tells a story. But sometimes this is particularly haunting. For example, on this album. Sometimes the sounds fall like snowflakes, as if it were an impromptu by Robert Schumann, the play is called "Winter in Odessa". Then again, the number is called "Central Station", a beat powerfully drives forward, you can hear trains arriving and departing, although everything is just solo piano.

Cet album monographique publié par Deutsche Grammophon frappe fort avec cet hommage à la compositrice Sofia Goubaïdoulina à l’occasion de son quatre-vingt-dixième anniversaire. Trois œuvres récentes sont enregistrées ici, en première mondiale, par l’Orchestre du Gewandhaus de Leipzig sous la direction d’Andris Nelsons, grand admirateur de la musique à la fois intellectuelle, spirituelle et sensuelle de la grande compositrice russe. Alors assistante de Chostakovitch, Goubaïdoulina compose en 1959 une Symphonie de chambre très appréciée par le compositeur soviétique qui l’encourage à continuer dans cette voie. Mais il faudra attendre les années 1980 pour que son œuvre commence à être perçue sur un plan international, grâce à des interprètes comme Gidon Kremer, le Quatuor Arditti ou encore Sir Simon Rattle.

LUSTRUM is a Latin term describing a period of 5 years in ancient Rome. Arkady Shilkloper and Vadim Neselovskyi have been playing together since 2011 and celebrated their 5-year anniversary in the year this recording was made. Hence the title of the album Lustrum, which also contains the words for Light and Delight - because the collaboration between the two musicians is characterised by their joie de vivre and the obvious delight they take in playing together.

Vadim Chaimovich was born in Vilnius, Lithuania, and began studying piano at the age of five, giving his USSR debut performance with an orchestra just two years later. His winning the First Prize at the «Virtuosi per Musica di Pianoforte» International Competition in Usti nad Labem (Czech Republic) in 1991 was followed by more awards at international competitions in Lithuania, Poland and Russia.
