2017 release, the 10th album from the British band led by 'Dr. Robert' Howard. The Wild River was recorded in Spain and produced by Dr. Robert. The 10 new tracks deliver a funky soulful extravaganza with added sugar from the sweet soul strings of Ben Trigg and the inimitable iconic saxophone of Neville Henry. Also joining the band for the first time on record is ex-Galliano sticksman Crispin 'The Pump' Taylor. Add Dr. Robert's spiky guitar and distinctive vocals and Mick Anker's snaking bass lines and there you have it. A simian soul stew with biting but poetic lyrics designed to make your feet move and your mind wonder.

When Willie Nelson and album producer Daniel Lanois set out to create a cinematic-sounding album, Teatro, they took over a disused movie theatre in Oxnard, California, and pictured it's dusty glory on the cover art. Recorded as-live in situ amid the red velvet seats, Teatro sees Nelson working extensively with his frequent collaborator Emmylou Harris, who joins him for duets and on backing vocals. The other major player is Daniel Lanois, who produces the album, plays guitar and bass, took the cover photo and wrote one of the album's songs, "The Maker", a stunning performance with glacier-thick vibe. Reinvention is key on Teatro, with Nelson revisiting a number of songs he first wrote in the 1960s, including 1968's "I Just Can't Let You Say Goodbye" and 1962's "I've Just Destroyed the World" and "Three Days". Though the songs are familiar, the sounds aren't: Teatro found Nelson experimenting with rhythms and flavors as never before, from the Spanish-influenced "Darkness On The Face Of The Earth" to the double-drum-kit percussive groove of "My Own Peculiar Way". Originally released by Island Record in 1998, Teatro is issued here for the first time as a double disc set, including the original album plus 7 unreleased bonus tracks from the sessions.

Based in Leipzig with a lengthy career as principal cellist of the Gewandhaus Orchestra, Julius Klengel was a renowned soloist and revered the world over as a great interpreter and pedagogue, whose works are still in use by students today. Composed in true Romantic style, the three Concertinos were written for teaching purposes, the first coming closest to the idea of a mini-concerto but all having virtuoso elements and expressive and lyrical central movements. The Konzertstück, Op. 10 gives the piano equal status with the cello to create a thrilling conclusion to any programme.

2017 release from ground breaking post-classical composer Poppy Ackroyd. Poppy turned heads in the neo-classical world with her previous works Escapement and Feathers, as well as her involvement in Hidden Orchestra. Advocated by giants of the genre, Hauschka and Nils Frahm, the unique musician has returned. The songs serve to reintroduce listeners to Ackroyd's most stunning pieces from her previous albums, all of which have been reworked into 'acoustic' solo piano arrangements alongside four brand new unheard pieces.

This new release by the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Hannu Lintu is an all-Sibelius programme featuring internationally acclaimed mezzo-soprano Anne Sofie von Otter. The album includes two major tone poems by Jean Sibelius, Tapiola and En Saga, combined with a set of songs orchestrated by Aulis Sallinen (b. 1935) in 2015. Sibeliuss tone poem Tapiola, written shortly after the 7th Symphony, may be regarded as the culmination of a period that began with the Fifth Symphony, a period where Sibelius created music that grew organically out of tiny germs into huge processes. It was completed in 1926 and remained Sibeliuss last great orchestral work.

Award-winning and much decorated composer Claude Baker here entwines his evocative soundworld with the powerful imagery of two great poets. Recorded in its premiere performance with Marc-André Hamelin as soloist, the Piano Concerto From Noon to Starry Night draws on and amplifies the structures and meanings of five poems by Walt Whitman, expressing the heroism and darkness of war, exuberant celebrations of nature and a wistful remembrance of things past. Aus Schwanengesang is a memorial piece that expands and re-composes the poignant Heine Lieder from Schuberts song cycle with oblique and multi-layered references.

Jozef Koffler earned a firm place in music history as one of the first Polish and European twelve-tone composers. Born in Stryj, he returned to his home region in 1924 after his education in Vienna and settled in Lemberg, where he was active not only a composer but also as a charismatic teacher and music journalist. The investigation of Koffler's oeuvre has shown that he adopted Schonberg's method of composition with twelve interrelated tones and applied it in a most highly creative manner, often modifying its strict rules in order to achieve the desired artistic result.
