The debut self-titled album from the Allman Brothers Band came out in late 1969, recorded only a few months after the band was formed. These songs were honed on the road, which allowed the Allmans to record and mix the entire record in only two weeks. Among the highlights is the original version of the seminal Whipping Post, which would take on a life of its own following the 20 minute live version on the Fillmore East concert album released two years later. This Deluxe edition includes a second disc of the entire album, remixed and re-released in 1973 under the title "Beginnings".

When the Allman Brothers Band’s fifth album, Brothers and Sisters, was released on Capricorn Records in August 1973, the legendary southern blues-rock group had already achieved world-wide fame with their 1971 live album, At Fillmore East. This success was followed by the tragic loss of their founder, leader and musical visionary, guitarist Duane Allman, who died in a motorcycle crash on October 29, 1971. While regrouping under the leadership of singer/organist Gregg Allman and guitarist/vocalist Dickey Betts, The Allman Brothers Band soldiered on with Brothers and Sisters, which turned out to be their most successful recording to date.

Well, this actually may be one of the best shows in quite a while. The Allman Brothers Band comes out and absolutely kills this Friday night set. The highlight of the show is a full rendition of "Will The Circle Be Unbroken?" in the middle of an epic Whipping Post jam encore. But really, this entire show was great. You shouldn't still be reading this - you should already be listening to the show.

The Allman Brothers Band is the debut studio album by American rock band the Allman Brothers Band. Formed in 1969, the Allman Brothers Band came together following various musical pursuits by each individual member. Following session work, Duane Allman moved to Jacksonville, Florida where he led large jam sessions with his new band, one he had envisioned as having two guitarists and two drummers. After rounding out the lineup with the addition of his brother, Gregg Allman, the band moved to Macon, Georgia, where they were to be one of the premiere acts on Capricorn. The album was recorded and mixed in two weeks at Atlantic Studios in New York City.
