In 1978, legendary San Francisco Punk Rock Band The Dead Kennedys were formed and the rest is history. They became one of the iconic bands of the US Punk Rock revolution and recorded seminal punk classics "Holiday In Cambodia" and "California Uber Alles," as well as many others that have become synonymous with Punk Rock itself. Manifesto Records is proud to announce that on September 27, they will release a CD of the Iguana Studios Rehearsal Tape- San Francisco 1978. This is the beginnings of the Dead Kennedys, the original recordings from their early rehearsals that would lead to their classic recordings. This collection was previously only available as a limited edition, Record Store Day only LP. It was very successful and actually charted on the Billboard top sellers list, but the demand from fans was overwhelming to release this on CD.

This six-disc set of supposed punk rock classics, Shit Factory: Greatest Punk Swindle is indeed a swindle. While most of the bands that are featured are worthy of the tag "legendary" (Adicts, Exploited, Dead Kennedys, the Damned the Stranglers) the tracks that appear are poorly recorded live versions, re-recordings and demos. Do not be fooled by the bloody chests of Sid Vicious and Johnny Rotten on the cover, as this is not a middle finger raised to the establishment; it's a middle finger aimed directly at the listener.

Futurismo present their new anthology series: Altered Vision, beginning with SUBURBAN ANNIHILATION The California Hardcore Explosion / From The City To The Beach: 1978-1983. This aggressive collection draws from California’s rich history of punk, more specifically hardcore: a new sound that eschewed melody for intensity, a sound that took punk harder and faster, a sound intrinsically American. Whilst hardcore was also burning over on the East Coast, it was in California that it had ignited and sprawled, a sonic punch in the face that raged socio-political disdain and total abandonment for commercialism, fueled by a crumbling American Dream and the collapse of family values.

The Fugs First Album (1965). A loping, ridiculous, and scabrous release, the Fugs' debut mashed everything from folk and beat poetry to rock and rhythm & blues - all with a casual disregard for sounding note perfect, though not without definite goals in mind. Actually compiled from two separate sessions originally done for Folkways Records, and with slightly different lineups as a result, it's a short but utterly worthy release that pushed any number of 1964-era buttons at once (and could still tick off plenty of people). Sanders produced the sessions in collaboration with the legendary Harry Smith, who was able to sneak the collective onto Folkways' accounts by describing them as a "jug band," and it's not a far-off description…

Still disenfranchised about American society and riled up about it, the former Dead Kennedys singer takes issue with Wall Street, Hollywood, consumer nature, fast food, and white people in general on Jello Biafra & the Guantanamo School of Medicine's third album, White People & the Damage Done. Backed by a musically fierce band that includes Ween/Butthole Surfers bassist Andrew Weiss, drummer Paul Della Pelle, and guitarists Ralph Spight and Kimo Ball, the 54-year-old frontman sounds as spirited as he did in his early days. In fact, for the fast, furious "Road Rage" and "Mid-East Peace Process," he and his band match the blistering energy of early-'80s American hardcore staples like Black Flag (good to see that Keith Morris' OFF! isn't the only group carrying the torch) and, yes, the Kennedys.

THE CLASSIC 1981 SHOW AT BOND INTERNATIONAL CASINO NYC • In support of their 1981 album Sandinista!, The Clash played a series of 17 concerts at Bonds International Casino in New York City in May and June 1981. Due to their wide publicity, the concerts became an important moment in the history of the band. Some of the nights were recorded for FM broadcast. • The site of the concerts was formerly Bonds department store which had been converted into a large second-floor hall. Promoters kept the name because there was a large Bonds sign on the outside of the building. As The Clash had not yet broken out into mass popularity in the US, eight shows were originally scheduled: 28, 29, 30, 31 May and 1, 2, 3 and 5 June 1981. However, given the venue's legal capacity limit of 1750, the series was blatantly oversold (3500) right from the first night, leading the New York City Fire Department to cancel the Saturday, 30 May performance.
