The Mythos Suite is a unique project, with Audio Network bringing together Stephen Fry’s storytelling talents with Debbie Wiseman OBE’s celebrated skills as a composer. The music, composed by Debbie, was inspired by Stephen Fry’s work Mythos, an international bestseller that re-tells the Greek myths, and developed with him. This 5-track suite of long-form compositions showcases musical tales from the beginning of time (Chaos), together with those of Apollo and Marsyas, Persephone, Rhea and Sisyphus, performed by the National Symphony Orchestra. The release also contains an additional 5 tracks of instrumental only tracks.

The release is the penultimate installment of a complete cycle of Beethoven symphonies on the National Symphony Orchestra label.

Four Symphonic Works features a collection by John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts’ Composer-in-Residence, Carlos Simon. Each piece was recorded live in concert and initially released digitally, one at a time, throughout the season. The final release, a collection of all four works, will be available on CD and via streaming and download services on August 23. Four Symphonic Works will be released on the National Symphony Orchestra label and distributed by LSO Live (NSO0018).

Carlos Simon’s contract extension comes as the National Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Music Director Gianandrea Noseda, announces the release of its next recording, an album of Four Symphonic Works by Carlos Simon recorded live and released on the NSO’s label. The album will include Tales—A Folklore Symphony, The Block, Songs of Separation, and Wake Up! Concerto for Orchestra. The first EP, Tales—A Folklore Symphony, will be available January 26.

The National Symphony Orchestra looks forward to releasing Beethoven’s remaining symphonies over the course of 2023 and 2024. The cover designs for this cycle feature the work of Kennedy Center Education Artist-in-Residence Mo Willems. Inspired by the genius of Ludwig van Beethoven, Willems created a series of large-scale abstractions influenced by each of the composer’s nine symphonies.

The National Symphony Orchestra (NSO) will release an album of George Walker’s five sinfonias, conducted by Music Director Gianandrea Noseda, on September 8, 2023. The recording project celebrates NSO’s connection to Walker—the first African American composer to receive a Pulitzer Prize and a D.C. native—and honors his centennial, which was in 2022.
