With their debut "Tales from eternal Dusk", the guys from Dark Fortress from Bavarian Landshut have outdone themselves. The 11 songs on their CD line up in their perfection and show the listeners that there are other bands that can do Black Metal like Dissection, Naglfar or Dimmu Borgir of the older school. They do not sound like a cheap copy or copy of this known scene sizes. They convey the very feeling that is supposed to be conveyed with this music. Without commercial and other superfluous peculiarities, "Tales from eternal Dusk" should appeal to everyone who likes rough, yet very melodic Black Metal.

Jim Marshall created iconic images of rock 'n' roll stars, jazz greats, and civil rights leaders. He had the power to look into the soul of an individual and to capture the mood of an entire generation. This deluxe, career-spanning volume showcases hundreds of photographs: intimate portraits, heady crowd scenes, and haunting street shots evoking the sights and sounds of the 1960s and 1970s. Marked-up proof sheets offer insight into Marshall's process, while in-depth essays from his contemporaries tell a compelling story about this larger-than-life man. Nearly a decade after his death, Marshall's legacy is the subject of a documentary feature film.

Over the last few months, I’ve been reviewing just a few of the Backbeats series of compilations released by Harmless since 2009. This is a comprehensive overview of various genres of music that numbers everything from Deep Soul, Eighties Garage and Northern Soul to Philly Soul, Disco and House music. One of my favorites of the thirty compilations that Backbeats, a subsidiary of Harmless have released is The Big Apple Bites Back-New York House and Remix Culture, released in July 2010. This is compilation that contains a combination of Salsoul and house music, many of which are remixed by various DJs. Among the DJs remixing tracks are Frankie Knuckles, Kerri Chandler, Joe Clausell and Blaze.
