Phil Spector changed the landscape of music with innovative productions that influenced virtually every pop producer who followed in his wake. The traditional drums-bass-guitar combination was still the standard in the early 1960s, and only two-track technology was available. Spector created what would become known as the Wall of Sound, using large bands (with several guitarists, two bassists, full string and horn sections), echo chambers, powerful vocalists, and symphonic structures not previously associated with youthoriented pop music. He managed to draw from different musical genres, including R&B, soul, teen idol pop, rock & roll, and doo-wop, to create a lush, resonant, and dramatic sound. This quintessential collector’s edition compiles Spector’s most essential and enduring work from the beginning of his career, gathering a variety of the great sides he produced for a dozen different labels, such as Atlantic, ABC-Paramount, Gregmark, Jamie, Trey, Musicor, Dunes, Big Top, or his own Philles Records, between 1961 and 1962.

Rachelle Ferrell made her name performing R&B, but this strictly acoustic jazz CD is her earliest recording. Her voice is quite soulful, making her later shift to R&B less of a surprise in hindsight, but Ferrell seems quite unsure of how to use her wide range, and her improvisations are often quite eccentric. Her lack of warmth and subtlety (along with a tendency to scream and screech in unexpected spots without a buildup) makes it difficult to listen to several of the numbers on this standards-oriented set. Trumpeter Terence Blanchard and Wayne Shorter on tenor make worthwhile cameo appearances, but Rachelle Ferrell at that point in her career did not really sound ready for prime time, despite her potential.

Along with being a multi-talented musician and an excellent songwriter, Phil Collins is one of the best live performers in rock. His songs usually stay true to their original form, he puts plenty of fire into his vocals, and best of all, every one of his in-concert qualities transfers well into album form. Serious Hits…Live! is a wonderful example of this, with not only 15 tracks, but 15 of Phil's best tracks, performed with an overcharged amount of enthusiasm and energy.

Songs of Love & Loss is the seventh studio album, and first cover album, by Australian singer and songwriter Tina Arena, released on 1 December 2007. The album was Arena's first full length English language recording in six years and her first album with EMI since her debut Strong as Steel in 1990. It peaked at No. 3 on the ARIA Top Albums Chart and was certified platinum a week after its release. "Until" was the only original song on the album. A French-language version of "Until" ("Ta vie") was featured on her next album, 7 vies. "Woman" is featured in a remixed version here. The original is from her 2001 Just Me album.
