Guitarist Jimmie Vaughan formed the Fabulous Thunderbirds with vocalist/harpist Kim Wilson in 1974. With their fusion of blues, rock & roll, and R&B, the Fabulous Thunderbirds helped popularize roadhouse Texas blues with a mass audience in the '80s and, in the process, they helped kick-start a blues revival during the mid-'80s.
From the opening swampy piano runs, crispy funk lead riffs, earthy and raunchy harmonica runs, and Kim Wilson's down-to-the-bone soul growls on the Motown classic "(I Know I'm) Losing You" to the bright Stax-inflected guitars and horns of the Eddie Floyd classic "Never Found Me a Girl," The Fabulous Thunderbirds take flight on their 2016 album, Strong Like That…

This two-CD, 51-song set covers virtually everything the group recorded with Steve Winwood in the lineup from 1964-1967. The gap between the band's best and worst material was considerable; quite a few of their R&B covers are surprisingly routine, and the occasional cuts that don't have Winwood on lead vocals are downright pedestrian…

Over the last 15 years, The War on Drugs have steadily emerged as one of this century’s great rock and roll synthesists, removing the gaps between the underground and the mainstream, between the obtuse and the anthemic, making records that wrestle a fractured past into a unified and engrossing present. The War On Drugs have never done that as well as they do with their fifth studio album, I Don’t Live Here Anymore, an uncommon rock album about one of our most common but daunting processes—resilience in the face of despair.

Among the many projects Mike has been working on recently is a "Director's Cut" of the 1993 Waterboys album Dream Harder. Mike: "I came across Brendan O'Brien's unused mixes for this album and they were better than the ones on the record. So I revamped the album using several of the O'Brien tracks, and souped-up the sound of some others. I removed two numbers which I don't like so much and added two that I do. Also restored the full length New Life which, for reasons I now find inexplicable, I shortened at the time." The new cover photo was shot by Mike at Glastonbury Tor in 2022, the morning after the Waterboys played the festival. As of this time no physical copy is planned.

Rum Sodomy & the Lash is the second studio album by the London-based folk punk band The Pogues, released on 5 August 1985. The album reached number 13 in the UK charts. The track "A Pair of Brown Eyes", based on an older Irish tune, reached number 72 in the UK singles chart. "The Old Main Drag" later appeared on the soundtrack to the film My Own Private Idaho. The album's title is taken from a quotation attributed to Winston Churchill: "Don't talk to me about naval tradition. It's nothing but rum, sodomy, and the lash." The title was suggested by drummer Andrew Ranken, who said "it seemed to sum up life in our band". The cover artwork painted by Peter Mennim is based on The Raft of the Medusa, a Romantic-era painting by Theodore Géricault, with the band members' faces replacing those of the men on the raft.

The Avett Brothers once again team up with Rick Rubin on "True Sadness", the band's fourth consecutive collaboration with the producer. Sonically, the album is as multidimensional as its makers. The same could be said of its long list of influences: from Queen to Jimmie Rodgers, Tom Petty to Nine Inch Nails, Gillian Welch to Aretha Franklin and Walt Disney to Pink Floyd. There are moments of undeniable celebration and camaraderie, others of quiet and lonely exhalation.
