The Thirteenth Child is a new opera in two acts, with music by Poul Ruders to a libretto by Becky & David Starobin. Commissioned by The Santa Fe Opera and the Odense Symfoniorkester, the libretto is an adaptation of the Brothers Grimm story, "The Twelve Brothers". The recording, made in Denmark and the USA, brings Ruders's gripping 80-minute score vividly to life, and is being released by Bridge Records in tandem with the world premiere staging of The Thirteenth Child by the Santa Fe Opera in July and August of 2019. The recording features soprano Sarah Shafer as Princess Lyra; mezzo-soprano Tamara Mumford as Queen Gertrude (Ms. Mumford will also create the role for The Santa Fe Opera production); bass-baritone Ashraf Sewailam as Drokan; bass Matt Boehler as King Hjarne; tenor David Portillo as Benjamin; tenor Alasdair Kent as Prince Frederic and Toke, and bass Alex Rosen as Corbin.

The 13th Floor Elevators were an American rock band from Austin, Texas, which existed from 1965 to 1969. During their career, the band released four LPs and seven 45s for the International Artists record label. This 4x discs set contains all four of the original Elevators albums that were released on the International Artists label from 1966 to 1968, remastered and collected in a clam box with extensive new notes by band expert Paul Drummond. In addition to the stereo versions of the three 'studio' albums, which were remastered and remixed from the original tapes in 2007 by the original producer Walt Andrus, the set also includes a completely new mix of 1968's "Live" album, minimizing the fake applause that was added to the recordings and removing glitches that blighted previous versions.

The increasingly blurry lines between what is real and what is an artificial construct - both physically and philosophically - are the point of focus in the science fiction drama The Thirteenth Floor. In 1937, a man named Fuller gives a note to Ashton, the bartender at a swank hotel, that's addressed to Douglas Hall. Fuller tells Ashton it's crucial that no one else sees the note, and that the information enclosed is of great importance. Fuller and Hall both work for Intergraph Computer Systems, a cutting edge artificial intelligence firm, and the "past" Fuller was visiting was actually a stunningly realistic recreation of Los Angeles 50 years ago, complete with people you can meet and places you can visit, that exists only in a microchip. The message he left with Ashton, however, is real.
