Dr. John, a six-time Grammy® Award winner and a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee (2011) began his solo career in 1968 on ATCO Records, where he released seven albums that introduced classics like “Iko Iko”, “Right Place, Wrong Time”, and “Such A Night”. Rhino will explore Dr. John’s early days with a new seven-CD set that follows his evolution from a psychedelic, voodoo witch doctor to a celebrated interpreter of New Orleans standards. All seven studio albums have been remastered for the first time. Delia Gonzalez composed Horse Follows Darkness after she and her eight-year-old son moved back to America after spending some time in Berlin. She states that America suddenly felt like a foreign country to her, and equates it with exploring the Wild West, additionally citing Western films as an influence on the album. Coming two years after In Remembrance, an album of solo piano works based on 16mm ballet dance films, Horse Follows Darkness also seems to be a return to the kosmische and avant-disco sounds Gonzalez was known for during the 2000s, when she collaborated with Gavin Russom (both under their own names and as part of Black Leotard Front).

Amusing juxtapositions that here! In the first twenty tracks, the famous pianist duo Gülru Ensari and Herbert Schuch, here in four hands, slyly mix Brahms waltzes and others, perhaps less well known, of Hindemith - superb little pearls of coquetry, titled Drei Wunderschöine Mädchen im Schwarzwald ("Three beautiful girls in the Black Forest"). After completing this little round trip between Brahms and Hindemith, the duo ended up blurring the cards with two Anatolian Melodies by the Turkish composer Özkan Manav (* 1967), bridge between East and West.

Bob Dylan converted to Christianity in 1979. Like many who have been born again, Dylan spoke and sang solely of his faith for a brief period – roughly half a year, beginning in November of 1979 and ending in May of 1980. Facing a fan base who were generally furious at his newfound religion, Dylan started to thread some oldies into his set lists but he didn't leave gospel behind until he released Infidels in 1983.
