The Heroes of Dixie Wardens

The 10th Legion of Super-Heroes volume in DC's invaluable Archive Editions series catches the Legion in a period of transition in the early 1970s.The LSH was relegated to seven-page stories in the back of Superboy's comic (and not even every issue), and because that's not the ideal format to cover 30 heroes, most of the stories concentrate on a couple Legionnaires. Soon the Legion became popular enough that the title eventually became Superboy Starring the Legion of Super-Heroes, and the issues in this volume do contain a number of milestones of Legion lore. Wildfire makes his debut as an applicant named ERG-1 in issue #195, Bouncing Boy and Duo Damsel get married in issue #200, and then there were the sexy new costumes, including Saturn Girl's pink bikini and Phantom Girl's bell bottoms. The 232-page book includes biographies of the creative talent (including one-shot inker Mike Grell, who would go on to make his own mark on the Legion) and a nice introduction by the artist who grew up on the Legion during this period, Dave Cockrum, before he went on to help reinvent the X-Men.–David Horiuchi

The new, racier Legion's popularity skyrocketed, setting the stage for more 30th century classics to come. This volume celebrates that legendary era of Legion history with 16 classic stories from SUPERBOY AND THE LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES #213-223 and KARATE KID #1, written by Cary Bates, Jim Shooter and Paul Levitz, with art by Mike Grell, Ric Estrada, Michael Nasser and others, and a cover by Grell. In addition, long-time Legion fan Mike Flynn contributes an introduction.

The Legion of Super-Heroes was merely a clever title for a group of teenaged super-heroes (only three of whom are actually named) from the far future who went back in time to pay tribute to the greatest teenaged super-hero of them all - the Boy of Steel, Superboy. But the interest on the part of comics fans was so great, the super-team was brought back time and time again, in the majority of Superman Family titles. Eventually, demand grew so strong the Legion of Super-Heroes was awarded its own continuing series.

The game utilizes innovative ideas of combining and putting in confrontation two popular game genres - RTS and RPG, which the players will be able to appraise in multiplayer play against live opponents or against the computer - in single player campaign. To gather under control thousands of warriors or create a single super-hero capable of overcoming herds of enemies is the choice the player will have to make.
