Håkon Kornstad, a shining jewel in the Jazzland roster, brings his unique skillset to the fore on "Out of the Loop”. Recorded during the 2020 pandemic lockdown in Sofienberg Church in Oslo, the album carries the listener through many textures across its tracks, often sounding electronically created - yet all sounds are generated by saxophone, or are provided by Håkon's rich tenor voice. The Flutonette - essentially a flute with a saxophone reed mouthpiece - also makes appearances, further diversifying the sonic palette, as does the kalimba.

Ted Nash returns to modern mainstream jazz on this mostly straight-ahead quintet set, In the Loop. Nash's originals include brooding ballads à la Wayne Shorter, hints of New Orleans parade rhythms, some hard bop and freer playing, none of it sounding particularly derivative. Nash and the enthusiastic Marcus Printup make for a colorful front line, with Frank Kimbrough, Ben Allison, and Matt Wilson being a solid and flexible rhythm section. The diverse compositions and consistently strong playing make this a set well-worth exploring. ~ AllMusic Review by Scott Yanow

"Out of the Loop" is an album by the Brecker Brothers that was released by GRP Records in 1994. In 1995 the album won the brothers two Grammy Awards for Best Contemporary Jazz Performance (now known as Best Contemporary Jazz Album) and Best Instrumental Composition (for Michael Brecker's "African Skies"). At AllMusic, Jim Newsom gave the album four stars and wrote, "The album is surprisingly strong, and any fears of a paint-by-numbers attempt to cash in on past glories are quickly dispelled with the opening 'Slang', which is reminiscent of Amandla-era Miles. Here, as throughout the disc, Michael's sax solo burns with abandon, while brother Randy's trumpet glides across a tastefully smooth and melodic terrain".

On Out of the Loop, Randy and Michael Brecker stepped up to the plate with their second long-player of the '90s, 20 years after their first foray into the jazz-funk-fusion realm. The album is surprisingly strong, and any fears of a paint-by-numbers attempt to cash in on past glories are quickly dispelled with the opening "Slang," which is reminiscent of Amandla-era Miles. Johnny Dillard Lytle (October 13, 1932 in Springfield, Ohio – December 15, 1995 in Springfield) was a jazz drummer and vibraphonist. Lytle grew up in Springfield, Ohio in a family of music, the son of a trumpeter father and an organist mother. He began playing the drums and piano at an early age. Before studying music in earnest, he was a boxer, and was a successful Golden Gloves champion. During the late '50s, Lytle continued to box, but landed jobs as a drummer for Ray Charles, Jimmy Witherspoon and Gene Ammons. Then he switched from drums to vibraphone and toured with organist Hiram "Boots" Johnson from 1955 to '57. He formed his first group in 1957 with saxophonist Boots Johnson, organist Milton Harris and drummer William "Peppy" Hinnant. He impressed the Grammy award-winning producer Orrin Keepnews who signed him to his Jazzland label in 1960.

Based in the Small City of Bauru in Brazil, Atomic Time completely breaks the mold with its experimental sound strongly influenced by Progressive rock and classical contemporary music. Their sound is incredibly peculiar, the result of a strong relationship between Pedro D’incao, (guitars) and Silvio Serra (drums) who have been playing together for a long time. This solid experience mixed with the infusion of new generations like the smoothness of Roger Lopez (vocals) and the rebellious Gabriel D’Incao, at the ever morphing keys. Though they are heavily influenced by bands such as King Crimson, Radiohead, Yes, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, you can completely identify they have a statement of their own…
