Available for the first time on CD, Pino Donaggio’s immortal score to the THE HOWLING is finally here, digitally remastered from the original ¼ inch album mastertapes. Directed by Joe Dante (“Gremlins”, “Innerspace”) and co-written by John Sayles (“Lone Star”, “Passion Fish”) this film remains a touchstone of contemporary horror, mixing classic scares with a still-relevant satiric look at media-obsessed culture. Mr. Donaggio (“Dressed to Kill”, “Body Double”, “Carrie”) anchors all the film’s suspense, chills and eroticism with his legendary orchestral score. Features bonus tracks and exclusive liner notes from the composer!

As the core member of the 13th Floor Elevators and an undisputed pioneer of psychedelic rock, the ’60s were thrilling times for Erickson. His band riding high in their native Texas and beyond, the howling single ‘You’re Gonna Miss Me’ was his calling card, but Erickson’s ‘60s ended in the stuff of nightmares.

Produced over a period of two years by Stu Cook (Creedence Clearwater Revival), The Evil One was released in 1981 and is a masterful collection of songs about zombies, demons, vampires and, yes, even the ‘Creature With The Atom Brain’. These tracks, inspired by schlock sci-fi and horror movies and colored by Roky’s distinctive, high-pitched vocal and squealing guitar, are among the maverick performer’s best.

Punk Rock, Alternative Rock, College Rock | Rhino #8122797198

This Rhino U.K. 2012 budget-priced box set rounds up the prime of the Replacements: five albums, beginning with their debut Sorry Ma, Forgot to Take Out the Trash, continuing with the Twin/Tone landmarks Hootenanny and Let It Be, then concluding with their major-label debut Tim and their first post-Bob Stinson album Pleased to Meet Me. These aren't the expanded versions Rhino put out in the 2000s; they're just the albums, but that's enough to make this a worthwhile purchase, particularly at this price. The Replacements were an American rock band formed in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1979. Initially a punk rock band, they are considered one of the pioneers of alternative rock.
