Abrasive, aggressive, and antagonistic, Britain's Throbbing Gristle pioneered industrial music. Exploring death, mutilation, fascism, and degradation amid a thunderous cacophony of mechanical noise, tape loops, extremist anti-melodies, and bludgeoning beats, the group's cultural terrorism – the "wreckers of civilization," one tabloid called them – raised the stakes of artistic confrontation to new heights, combating all notions of commercialism and good taste with a maniacal fervor.

20 Jazz Funk Greats is the third studio album by industrial music pioneers Throbbing Gristle, recorded in August 1979 and released in December 1979 by the band's record label Industrial. Despite its tongue-in-cheek title and stylistic diversions, the album generally continued the group's work in industrial and electronic music. It has been characterized as the band's best work.

Forty-two minutes of studio recordings dating from 1979 from the inventors of industrial music, Throbbing Gristle, this self-titled recording appeared in 1986 on Mute Records and exhibits what is arguably the group's most vital period. The dark, abrasive sound pales in comparison to their essential Second Annual Report and Twenty Jazz Funk Greats, but nonetheless, Throbbing Gristle remains an important chapter in their discography, worthy of the attention of hardcore industrial music fans.

In chronological order, 2004’s ‘TG Now’ was recorded and released by the band’s legendary Industrial Records to coicide with the RE:TG show at London’s Astoria. The vinyl was sold exclusively at the show and has traded for way of rt. original price ever since, making this fresh pressing of aces such as the sputtering rock ’n drone of ‘How Do You Deal’ and the slithering groover ‘Splitting Sky’ newly available on wax to a whole new wave of freaks. Likewise, ‘Part Two - The Endless Knot’ has been long out-of-print on vinyl, but this one is more an album “proper”, with duties divided between group efforts and four individual tracks by Carter, Tutti, P-Orridge (and Bryin Dall) and Christopherson, who mark distance travelled since the likes of ‘D.o.A’ with a compelling concentration and expansion of what made their sound so vital in the first place.

Issued the same year as their ‘TG Now’ side and sharing some of that LP’s material, TG’s postcard from Camber Sands was dedicated to the life partner and Coil bandmate of TG’s Peter Christopherson, Geff Rushton aka John Balance, who had passed away less than a month before the show. Under this pall of sadness the band turn thru new material alongside their takes on seminal work including ‘Hamburger Lady’ and ‘Convincing People’, all within the confines of an out-of-season holiday camp.

A hybrid of covers and inspired jams, joined by their good friend Void Manes and produced by Toshi Kasai, this project will likely for the first time challenge longtime Melvins fans, because the band isn’t known for doing that…ever. Expect Industrial accidents, broken machines, modular synths, circuit-bent toys inspired by the dawning of the industrial music genre kicked off in no small part by Throbbing Gristle. The first all-electronic Melvins LP!?!

Death Disco is centered around some of the post-punk singles that are most translatable to the dancefloor. PiL's "Death Disco," drenched in dread-filled dub as much as loping disco, is an obvious and smart choice. The majority of what follows isn't nearly as claustrophobic and dense, so in that sense the disc's title isn't wholly indicative of its contents.

London, 1979. From the rubble and ashes of punk a new youth cult was emerging. Divinely inspired by Bowie, Roxy Music and Kraftwerk, a new tribe the press started labelling New Romantics, or Futurists, discarded punk’s old-hat claims towards authenticity and protest, in pursuit of glamour, make-up, dressing up and dancing. Their home was The Blitz Club, a tiny wine bar at the edge of Covent Garden and what went on there between 1979 and 1980 would genuinely change the world. The other name for this cult? Blitz Kids. Without necessarily knowing it, The Blitz was birthing the next wave of British pop stars. A young Boy George ran the cloakroom, its host and doorman was a young Steve Strange, soon-to-be the frontman of Visage, Spandau Ballet played their first gig there and on a given night you might find yourself dancing next to a member of Ultravox. Fashion designers in Regency ballgowns mingled with secretaries in rubber, post boys dressed as Biggles danced next to art school kids dressed as Pierrot. David Bowie assembled his extras for the ‘Ashes To Ashes’ video from the Blitz kids. Mick Jagger was refused entry. Too square.

Drawing from the pioneering work of artists like Throbbing Gristle, Cabaret Voltaire, and Suicide, the dark avant-industrial group Skinny Puppy formed in 1982 in Vancouver, British Columbia. Originally a duo comprised of former Images in Vogue drummer cEvin Key (born Kevin Crompton) and Nivek Ogre (aka Kevin Ogilvie), Skinny Puppy followed their debut cassette, Back and Forth, with the EP Remission, the first of many recordings with producer David "Rave" Ogilvie, in 1984…
