Grammy Award nominated Kortney Jamaal Pollard, who performs under the stage name Mali Music, is an American recording artist, singer-songwriter and producer. "The Transition of Mali" is his fouth studio album and his sophomore release following his major label debut, "Mali Is". The lead single "Gonna Be Alright" is already being met with praise by many critics and the track truly gives fans a glimpse into Mali's mind.

The female singers of Mali have a well-deserved reputation for excellence. For some time, Mande jeli moussolou (feminine plural form of the word "jeli") dominated the Malian musical scene, but, more recently, the Wasulu singers have gained national and, in some cases, international prestige. This CD documents this musical preeminence by presenting mostly unreleased recordings by four Malian Divas: Kandia Kouyate, Mah Damba, Sali Sidibe, and Oumou Sangare. It also illustrates the stylistic differences between the Mande (Kouyate, Damba) and Wasulu (Sidibe and Oumou Sangare) styles of music. "The Divas from Mali" should be not confused with "Divas of Mali" (Shanachie 64078) which a very good recording, but this one is much better.

Bird Boy follows the story of Bali, a ten-year-old boy desperate to prove his worth to his northern tribe despite his small stature. Banned from the ceremony that would make him an adult in the eyes of his people, he takes matters into his own hands. To prove that he is capable of taking care of himself, he sets out into the forbidden forest and stumbles upon a legendary weapon. Bali fights his way across a dangerous land of gods, men, and beasts to keep the sword of Mali Mani, the savior of the sun, from the hands of the terrifying Rooks.
