At this stage of the game, any new Tom Waits record is an event. Listening through the music of his entire career is daunting, to say the least, but it's a journey no one else, with the possible exception of Bob Dylan, has taken before. If one listens to the official recordings, from 1973's Closing Time, featuring the songs of an itinerant Beat barroom singer (no lounges please), right on through to the frenetic mania of 2004's Real Gone, one becomes aware of not only the twists and turns of a songwriter wrestling and bellowing at and with his muse, but of a journeyman artist barely able to hold on to the lid of his creativity, let alone keep it on.

Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers famously played 20 nights at the legendary Fillmore venue in San Francisco in 1997. 6 of the shows were professionally recorded and this release features many of the high points of the residency. The 4 CD deluxe edition includes 58 tracks, 35 of which are covers - over 4 hours of music. The 4 CDs are packaged in a box with a 32-page booklet (with previously unseen photographs), 3 custom guitar picks, a replica All Access laminate, and an embroidered patch ('The Fillmore House Band' - a term that was bestowed on The Heartbreakers during the shows at the Fillmore).

2CD SET FEATURING TOM PETTY & THE HEARBREAKERS FINEST SHOW FROM 1999 Tom Petty s 12th studio album - his 10th with the Heartbreakers - was issued on 16th April 1999; the record reached number 10 on the Billboard 200, aided by singles Free Girl Now, Swingin' and Room at the Top, which hit numbers 5, 17 and 19 respectively on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. Echo, as the album was titled, was the band s last collection for which Rick Rubin was producer. One of the tour s finest shows, the entire set at this remarkable German concert was recorded for FM radio broadcast and simultaneous TV transmission, and this double CD features this extraordinary performance in its entirety.
