In a post apocalyptic future that appears as a blend of World War II Europe and J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth, a pint-size wizard named Avatar must save the world from a band of fascist mutants controlled by his evil twin brother, Blackwolf, who likes to confuse enemy armies by projecting films of Adolf Hitler speeches during attacks. Painted live-action footage of advancing Nazi armies contrasts with Saturday-morning-cartoon-style animation of fairies and elves as Avatar travels through various magical and radioactive realms on his quest. Aiding him are a sexually promiscuous fairy queen, a hot-blooded warrior elf and Peace, a misunderstood robot rebelling against his Blackwolf-controlled programming. A bizarre and psychedelic meditation on magic vs. technology, this ultimate futuristic fantastic epic cult film still finds an audience on college campuses and will prove quite rewarding to viewers in the right frame of mind.

Love found and lost, and found again and the promiscuity of European youth in the 1970's is the premise behind Blue Jeans. Director Hugues Burin des Roziers' first feature length film tells the story of Julien Morin, an 11-year-old boy from an affluent area of Paris who takes a summer-long trip with his class to England to learn English. Along with his friends Talimard, Picolet and Dupont, the class seems more interested in meeting girls and having fun than learning English. Julien's attentions soon turn away from his English classes and to Janet, a local girl he meets in an arcade. When she spurns him for Jean-Pierre, an older French boy, Julien too finds a physical attraction to this handsome boy. Labeled as a queer and laughed at, Julien is at first unaffected by these hurtful remarks and yearns to spend more time with his new friend. Jean-Pierre, however, is unaware of Julien's true feelings.

In 1943, in the Russian front, the decorated leader Rolf Steiner is promoted to Sergeant after another successful mission. Meanwhile the upper-class and arrogant Prussian Captain Hauptmann Stransky is assigned as the new commander of his squad. After a bloody battle of Steiner's squad against the Russian troops led by the brave Lieutenant Meyer that dies in the combat, the coward Stransky claims that he led his squad against the Russian and requests to be awarded with the Iron of Cross to satisfy his personal ambition together with his aristocratic family. Stransky gives the names of Steiner and of the homosexual Lieutenant Triebig as witnesses of his accomplishment, but Steiner, who has problems with the chain of command in the army and with the arrogance of Stransky, refuses to participate in the fraud. When Colonel Brandt gives the order to leave the position in the front, Stransky does not retransmit the order to Steiner's squad…
