Tony Overwater & Bert Van Den Brink Impromptu: Live at Rhapsody

Tony Overwater is an award winning bass player whose sound and unique way of playing have established him as a key player in the European music world. He is a remarkable solo performer and leader of his own projects but also a collaborative and attentive sideman. "Up Close" has been recorded in the Mennonite Church in Amsterdam, which means that the recording 'breathes' and Overwater's bass sounds closer than ever. This album also features Yuri Honing & Maarten Ornstein.

His friends call him OP. He changed the way the double bass is heard and played. He made the bass a genuine solo instrument and was the first to incorporate the cello into jazz ensembles. He's played with Thelonious Monk, Coleman Hawkins, Roy Eldridge, Errol Garner, Max Roach, Woody Herman and Duke Ellington. An outstanding album full of killer jazz and double bass.

The sixth live album of Morrison’s career had to be something special to stand out among its predecessors, and this track-bytrack concert re-creation of perhaps his most acclaimed studio release doesn’t disappoint. Don’t, however, expect a carbon copy of what went before, as its maker has seemingly put greater effort and energy into this project than he has most of his more recent studio albums.

The Matthias Van den Brande Trio was created by its bandleader/saxophonist in 2021 and features two of his favorite people and musicians: Tijs Klaassen (bass) and Wouter Kühne (drums). This intimate trio setting provides them the freedom to explore different rhythmic, melodic and harmonic ideas, guided by freshly composed material by the bandleader.

Allan Harris is a very experienced vocalist with an excellent reputation. Sometimes he is even called the "jazz vocal king of New York", and the Miami Herald newspaper finds in his voice "the warmth of Tony Bennett, the sharpness and sense of rhythm of Sinatra and the sly elegance of Nat King Cole." Harris's popularity rose even further during the days of the pandemic lockdown, when every Tuesday he streamed live concerts under the title Harlem After Dark from his own apartment on the Web every Tuesday. Allan has amassed an impressive discography of fourteen albums over the years, the latest being Kate's Soulfood (2021). But there were no new live albums in this collection for thirteen years. This streak was interrupted by the release of Live at Blue Llama.
