Third studio album from the ex-Spandau Ballet singer. Here Hadley loses the 80's synth pop sound and dives head first into swing where his powerful voice sounds as good as ever. A project close to his heart that he's been working on for some time and hopes that his choice of songs, and vocal and musical arrangements, will challenge the normal format of current swing and delight not only his existing fans, but also some new ones.

Tony Bennett's practically inevitable commemoration of the Duke Ellington centenary is an appropriately blue-chip affair, with a big band and orchestra augmenting the Ralph Sharon Quartet on arrangements by Jorge Calandrelli, who has slowed the tempos to give the singer time to give intimate interpretations to the lyrics of songs like "Mood Indigo" and "Sophisticated Lady." Especially impressive are the less familiar tunes, such as "Azure" and "Day Dream." The slowest tunes also leave room for expressive solos by trombonist Al Grey and trumpeter Wynton Maralis ("Mood Indigo") and violinist Joel Smirnoff ("Sophisticated Lady").

“Bennett’s ability to straddle jazz and popular music was one he shared with few others. He managed to retain more of a jazz feel than either, and that’sN what Basie senses in him: a kindred spirit who is devoted to the not so very taxing business of s(w)inging the song with minimum distraction.”

Sadly it's not often we get to feature a musician who is still alive and performing and recording today and who actually fought in the second world war 'a front row seat in hell' as he would later describe it. Born in 1926, Anthony Benedetto, would later become Tony Bennett, courtesy of a name change instigated by Bob Hope while Bennett was touring with him following a performance by Bennett that Bob had witnessed with Pearl Bailey who 'discovered' him in 1949 and asked him to open for her in Greenwich Village. By age 10, Tony was already performing in public and he would go on to become somewhat of a pop star of his generation alongside another crooner of the era Frank Sinatra. We are focusing on the later years of the 1950s when Tony Bennett who had been signed as a pop singer to Columbia Records in 1950 by legendary producer and A&R man Mitch Miller, decided to make a musical adjustment towards a more jazz influenced style.

"In Person!" is a 1959 album by Tony Bennett, accompanied by the Count Basie Orchestra. The album was originally intended to be a live recording of a November 1958 performance at Philadelphia's Latin Casino, but the mono recording of the concert was disregarded by producer Al Ham who wanted the album recorded in stereo. Bennett and Basie were then reunited in the studio a month later to recreate the live concert. Fake applause was dubbed onto the original release of In Person! by Ham, and placed in incorrect places on the album. The effect was poorly received and removed for the album's 1994 re-issue.
