Dennis Bovell – aka Blackbeard – has changed the face of UK music. A bold claim, and one he might be shy to agr with, but true nonetheless. Born in Barbados in 1953 and moving to South London when he was 12, after forming his band Matumbi in the 70s, guitarist, singer, bass player and producer Dennis went on to work with a Who’s Who of modern music and was a key figure in UK Lover’s Rock while he was at it. Now as he celebrates his 72nd birthday, Dennis is releasing a brand new album that shows he’s in the best musical form he’s ever been.

Directed by Steve Hanft, Return Of The Dub-A-Dub Style is a documentary film about reggae music that was a part of the Dub Club in Los Angeles, considered a "culture phenomenon" for reggae and dub fans in Southern California. The film features interviews and live performances of rare and vintage reggae artists. This rip includes the full 61 minute documentary plus two folders of extras not used in the film, a mixture of brief performances and interview segments. The film was released in 2009 and came out on DVD in 2011 via Echodelic.

Version 2 Version: A Dub Transmission finds the veteran bassist/producer offering yet another dose of his intriguing neo-dub experimentation. Instead of giving an exact replica of grooves from dub's classic era, a 49-year-old Laswell combines dub with modern electronica and takes it to a trippy, hypnotic, atmospheric place - a place where the reggae beat interacts with ambient club/dance grooves. Version 2 Version doesn't cater to dub purists by any means; anyone who expects this 2004 release to sound exactly like King Tubby circa 1971 is bound to be disappointed.
