One of the great lost disco classics, Trax is Keith Forsey on drums and Pete Bellotte on bass, better known as the the rhythm section employed by Georgio Moroder at his studio in Munich. They appeared on all of Moroder's disco productions, most notably Donna Summer's mainstream success. The Orb virtually invented the electronic genre known as ambient house, resurrecting slower, more soulful rhythms and providing a soundtrack for early-morning ravers once the clubs closed their doors. Frontman Dr. Alex Paterson's formula was quite simple: he slowed down the rhythms of classic Chicago house and added synth work and effects inspired by '70s ambient pioneers Brian Eno and Tangerine Dream. To make the whole a bit more listenable – as opposed to danceable – obscure vocal samples were looped, usually providing a theme for tracks that lacked singing.

Ace has long been associated with the Stax catalogue and we are continually looking for new ways to keep the connection going via packages of exciting vault discoveries. Many of our recent Stax compilations have concentrated on the company’s later era – the yellow period, as it’s known in collector circles – but we’re starting our 2016 schedule with a project that draws on releases from their earlier blue period.

On August 1, 1998 Dave Matthews Band was four months into a tour supporting their quintessential album, Before These Crowded Streets. Live Trax Vol. 57 highlights this show's classic DMB songs performed by the original founding members. With the first appearances of the heartbeat intro into Pantala Naga Pampa>Rapunzel and a quick interpolation of Three Little Birds during Stefan’s bass solo into Watchtower, this show is not without its own unique flavor. As always, LeRoi Moore shines from note one of Seek Up to his beautiful work on Say Goodbye and Lover Lay Down.

The Live Trax Series returns to Meadows Music Theatre in Hartford, CT. In 1997 the band is savoring the success of two major label releases, with another release on the way. A midset Leave Me Praying (which becomes Don’t Drink the Water) gives the audience a preview of new works to come, even as it fades into a drum solo that takes us into a now-classic, Say Goodbye, featuring beautiful work by LeRoi Moore on the flute. Long-time friend, Bela Fleck, is a guest on banjo and adds to the sound of the band’s current catalogue, trading licks with bandmate Jeff Coffin on #41 and sitting in on a string of other songs.
