Trio, the minimalists of Neue Deutsche Welle, have made far better pieces than DaDaDa. Some of these pieces, which underline the genius of this band, can be heard on this album. Very suitable for getting to know and love trio. One should not expect more, however, one should look for more extensive publications.

There are those who believe that organ trios only have so many moves, that their repertoire sounds the same after a while. While there's truth in that—dependent, of course, upon which organ trio—Delvon Lamarr has been smart enough to create variations on his stew of Motown, Booker T. & The MGs, and Jimmy Smith. While not breaking any musical barriers, the resulting funk jams are an immensely fun listen and have a certain retro, life-of-the-party kind of charm. The Seattle-based trio's secret sauce is the interplay between Lamarr, who tends to favor long lines rather than knuckle twisting speed, and guitarist Jimmy James, who has a bluesy single note style but can also break out effects pedals, get funky on rhythm guitar as in "Get Da Steppin'," and most of all, create tight inventive mildly psychedelic solos. Finding and sustaining a groove is the name of the game here and both the opening track "Pull Your Pants Up" and title track generate the funky rhythms with Smith setting a repeated guitar figure for Lamarr to place a simple, repeating descending melody over the top. Smith gets to stretch out extended solos on the measured "Big TT’s Blues."

Following the recent release of ‘NOW – Yearbook 1982’, we are continuing the celebration of that phenomenal year of pop with ‘Now – Yearbook Extra 1982’; a limited edition 3CD.
62 essential tracks that we couldn’t fit on ‘Yearbook 1982’ include smash hits from The Jam, Soft Cell, Madness, Monsoon, Trio, Simple Minds, Japan, The Stranglers and Dexys Midnight Runners.
1982 saw a huge influx of new synth and pop bands in the charts – with many finding worldwide success complimented by the rise of MTV. Duran Duran cemented their success with the release of their ‘Rio’ album, and its title track is the perfect first track here. ABC, Adam Ant, Spandau Ballet and Culture Club with their Top 3 ‘Time (Clock Of The Heart)’ all follow, as do ABBA with ‘Head Over Heels’, the second single released from ‘The Visitors’ – the last studio album from the band for nearly 40 years. Disc 1 signs off with Captain Sensible’s No. 1 cover of ‘Happy Talk’, and Chas & Dave’s biggest ‘Ain’t No Pleasing You’.

Greatest Ever! Electric Eighties is a budget three-CD compilation that features 59 tracks from the 1980s. The bulk of the collection falls a little left of the dial, and highlights synth pop and new wave along with instrumental keyboard standards like Herbie Hancock's "Rockit" and the themes from Beverly Hills Cop ("Axel F") and Miami Vice ("Crockett’s Theme"). Much of the collection pools from the big-hooked pop music of one-hit wonders, such as the Waitresses' "I Know What Boys Like," the Buggles' "Video Killed the Radio Star," Animotion's "Obsession," Dead or Alive's "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)," and Taco's "Puttin' on the Ritz." As eclectic as music was in the '80s, this set does a nice job of pulling it all together into a solid anthology where the synthesizer takes priority.
