While in pre-production, as well as post-production, director Peter Jackson documents and comments upon his filming process while doing the remake of King Kong. Showing his crew at work, solving creative problems with CGI effects and trying to figure out how to maintain the integrity of the new film, compared to the 1933 classic version, Jackson enlists creative input from stars like Jack Black and Adrien Brody who wants to do his own stunt driving in New York scenes. Black and Brody explain their own version of creating a roll on the ship, and actors Naomi Watts, Colin Hanks, and Jamie Bell, provide behind-the-scenes comments providing insight and laughs.
Ce double DVD couvre l’intégralité de la période du tournage qui s’est déroulée de septembre 2004 à avril 2005 en Nouvelle Zélande et plus précisément à Wellington et ses alentours. Près de 7000 figurants ont participé au tournage. Pendant plus de trois heures, vous allez réellement avoir l’impression de suivre le tournage au jour le jour sans compter que la majeure partie des séquences sont présentées par Peter Jackson en personne et son équipe technique. Ce long reportage est composé d’une multitude de séquences de quelques minutes. En parlant de lieux, vous allez connaître les secrets de la reconstitution des quelques rues de New York depuis les studios de Wellington. C’est plutôt réussi et assez bluffant. De même, la gestion des figurants parait aussi être un long casse tête pour la personne en charge de cette partie.
