You talk to yourself all day long. We all do. Most of what we say carries no emotional weight: “Don’t forget to pick up the milk and bread.” Or, “I want to mention that book to my brother.” But sometimes, what we tell ourselves affects the very quality of our lives. We tell ourselves that we aren’t good enough, that our circumstances define us, that we can’t fix or change the things that seem to be weighing us down.
