Originally called "Brave Belt," the metal group was comprised of singer/guitarist Bachman, fellow Guess Who alum Chad Allan, bassist C.F. "Fred" Turner, and Randy's brother, drummer Robbie; after a pair of LPs (Brave Belt I and Brave Belt II), Allan was replaced by another Bachman brother, guitarist Tim, and in homage to the trucker's magazine Overdrive, the unit became BTO…

First ECM recording of a quartet formed in 2003. Originally billed as the Ethan Iverson-Mark Turner Quartet, it soon became the Billy Hart Quartet, and under this name has played shows to packed houses each year in New York City. The group’s first album for hard-bop label High Note in 2005 figured on many critics’ best-of-the year list. Since then, the ensemble’s music has gotten more free and spacious, a sensibility that aligns perfectly with ECM. While drummer Hart’s swinging beat and delicate cymbal tracery have previously been heard on the label behind Charles Lloyd and Bennie Maupin, and tenorist Mark Turner has appeared on acclaimed recording with the Fly Trio and Enrico Rava, “All Our Reasons” is a label debut for Bad Plus pianist Ethan Iverson and bassist Ben Street. Hart, Iverson and Turner all contribute material, which includes modern blues, a Coltrane tribute and an Iverson-penned homage to Paul Bley, the wonderfully.

Nat Turner's name rings through American history with a force all its own. Leader of the most important slave rebellion on these shores, variously viewed as a murderer of unarmed women and children, an inspired religious leader, a fanatic–this puzzling figure represents all the terrible complexities of American slavery. And yet we do not know what he looked like, where he is buried, or even whether Nat Turner was his real name.

Singer-songwriter Jimmy Thomas had this to say about recording with the Ike & Tina Revue: “I’ll tell you some strange stuff. I’ll tell you why you get confused with this stuff. Everybody gets confused. Look … Ike was a wheeler-dealer when it came to … I mean he knew how to juggle. In them days people like myself … in the organisation … we were just young, only Ike knew what was going on. And Ike would make masters and masters of other masters and wheel and deal and change names around and stuff … like, I wrote two or three Ikettes songs that sold pretty good and Ike stuck his name on ’em and stuff like that. Because he said, ‘Hey, don’t worry about it, I got the publishing company so the money’ll come’ … you don’t know until later on, a few years later you learn better and you do it different. But, yeah, he sold a lot of masters more than one time. He re-recorded songs, you know, new masters of various songs. That’s why you see things on various labels, same song by a different name … We would be on the road, we did a lot of recording down in New Orleans, Cosimo’s studio … Whatever city we’d be in, we was always touring, we’d do some recording usually. Lay down some tracks. Odd places, population twenty and stuff like that. If there was a studio there and we was in town, Ike got some ideas, even if they ain’t new ideas, just re-record what we did last year, you know, whatever …”
