Hawkwind has a strange legacy. This enigmatic British band seems to be simultaneously unheard by the majority of the world’s rock listeners while also standing as one of the most influential psychedelic bands of all time. Classic albums like Space Ritual, In Search of Space, Doremi Faso Latido, and Warrior on the Edge of Time have permanently hammered Hawkwind’s artistic stamp into underground music. Although there have been other tributes to these space warriors, Hawkwind Triad is unique because it feels like a real album. Each band has approached these iconic songs with respect, but each also recognized the need for these songs to be played in a new space and time. In the summer of 1956, the famed Harlem congressman Adam Clayton Powell arranged for Dizzy Gillespie to embark on a worldwide goodwill-ambassador tour sponsored by the State Department. Gillespie and an all-star big band featuring trumpeter Quincy Jones, the late trombonist Melba Liston, alto saxophonist Phil Woods, and tenor saxophonist Benny Golson performed in Ecuador, Argentina, Uruguay, and Brazil to frenzied, beret-wearing fans. Recordings were made but they weren't commercially available and were played only for a select group of musicians before Gillespie's death in 1993. Now the sides have been released, showcasing Dizzy at his bebopping best.

The only album from the Frech progressive quartet (inc. one British member) appeared on the market in 1972 (on a small Connection label) and featured English lyrics sung by Ian Jelfs - former guitarist of the UK progressive rock formation Circus (of Mel Collins fame). This rare album will certainly delight the majority of fans of early Caravan, Traffic and Brian Auger's Trinity (circa 1970) - with dominant and powerful Hammond organ sounds; tight rhythm section and impressive, jazzy guitar licks (somewhat similar to Allan Holdsworth and Robert Fripp). This LP doesn't contain any fillers and certainly belongs to the top of the early 70's French progressive rock. This CD has been carefully remastered (from original source) and sounds deliciously!

Few crooners can claim that name with as much authority as Johnny Mathis. Although his style may seem rather old fashioned to those who grew up on rock & roll, Mathis’s rich, vibrato-heavy voice and interpretative knack made him remarkably popular in the 1950s and ‘60s. This disc, which spreads 10 tracks, features “Chances Are,” “Wonderful! Wonderful!,” “(Where Do I Begin) Love Story,” and a slew of other Mathis classics. Longtime fans are sure to find many of their favorites, and newcomers to Mathis will find this a fine place to start.
