Hard Rock Hits collects a mixture of original hits and album cuts by popular bands of the '70s and '80s. Several of these groups are featured on more than one track including Nazareth, Black Sabbath, Manfred Mann's Earth Band, Uriah Heep, Deep Purple, the Raspberries, and Golden Earring. Cuts by Kansas, the Tubes, J. Geils Band, Styx, Survivor, Rainbow, and REO Speedwagon are also included on this triple-disc compilation.

The roots of hard rock can be traced back to the 1950s, particularly electric blues. In the 1960s, American and British blues and rock bands began to modify rock and roll by adding harder sounds, heavier guitar riffs, bombastic drumming, and louder vocals. By the end of the decade a distinct genre of hard rock was emerging with bands like Led Zeppelin, who mixed the music of early rock bands with a more hard-edged form of blues rock and acid rock, and Deep Purple, who began as a progressive rock group in 1968 but achieved their commercial breakthrough with their fourth and distinctively heavier album, In Rock in 1970. Three CD set charting the birth and early development of American hard rock. In the late 60s, the parallel emergence of psychedelia and the blues-based power trio format saw pop evolve into rock. In America, bands became harder, heavier, rawer and louder to a backdrop of the Vietnam War, street drugs and increasingly powerful amps. Commercially successful acts like Vanilla Fudge, Steppenwolf, Blue Cheer and Iron Butterfly spearheaded a new wave of bands whose sound would later be codified as heavy metal. Over three CDs and four hours of music, 'We're An American Band' charts hard rock's evolution during the late 60s and early 70s, culminating in Grand Funk's game-changing, chart-topping late 1973 single of the same name. In addition to the aforementioned bands, we feature the likes of Alice Cooper, The Stooges, ZZ Top, MC5 and Love, hard rock dilettantes (Todd Rundgren, Kim Fowley, even Muddy Waters) and such pioneers as Kurt Cobain-endorsed satanic rockers Coven and early metalheads Sir Lord Baltimore. The Hard Rock Collection is a 2CD compilation of hard rock and heavy metal music. No label listed and I do not believe it is actually affiliated with the Hard Rock Cafe, despite the logo on the front and some of the artists chosen for this. This was originally released with a completely different cover by the Pulse label in the UK and possibly due to how cheesy the cover was, they decided to do a second cover with a slight mock up of the Hard Rock Cafe logo. Nonetheless, original songs by the original artists.

UK three CD set. Released in 2016, I'm A Freak Baby - Grapefruit's overview of the UK's late Sixties/early Seventies nascent hard rock/proto-metal scene - received rapturous acclaim from pundits and punters alike. And, like all good follow-ups, I'm A Freak 2 Baby expands upon the original while simultaneously tightening the stylistic mesh. In addition to further selections from some of the subterranean stars of the first volume, we feature many of the genre's pioneers, with key tracks from The Jeff Beck Group, Edgar Broughton Band, Atomic Rooster and High Tide. Our scope ranges from Top Five hit singles (Love Sculpture's manic, heavily influential 'Sabre Dance' and the original brass-free demo version of The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown's gothic masterpiece 'Fire') to a clutch of bands (Thor, Tonge, Tarsus and several others) that were active during our timeframe but didn't get beyond locally-recorded demos.

Hard Rock Essentials: The 80's is a 1994 compilation of some of the best hard rock songs of the 1980's but are they limited to just songs released by the PolyGram family? No but most of it is PolyGram/Universal oriented. This was released by the PolyGram budget compilation subsidiary, Rebound.

• We also include musicians and bands who were honing their sound before finding huge success: the embryonic Deep Purple, the teenage Free, first album Thin Lizzy, Lemmy (fronting Sam Gopal) and a pre-fame Mott The Hoople are joined by old-stagers The Yardbirds, represented by an incendiary 1968 live version of “Dazed And Confused”, a song that Jimmy Page would take with him to his next band.
