A well-rounded exploration of every shade of blues Ford does so well: Chicago-style ("When I Leave Here"), jump blues ("The Miller's Son"), jazz-blues balladry ("Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood"), and Texas shuffle ("Tired of Talkin'"). Ford's buttery lines and burnished tone (and his boyish voice) are captured in all their glory by producer Danny Kortchmar. Solidly anchored by bassist Roscoe Beck and drummer Tom Brechtlein, Ford solos liberally, taking the fast funk of "Think Twice" over the top with a burning series of rapid-fire runs and well-tooled turnarounds. Slowing down for a languid version of Willie Dixon's "I Just Want to Make Love to You," Ford plays it raw and soulful, recalling B.B. King. He then turns up the pace on "Strong Will to Live," closing out the album with a signature solo full of fire and drama.
Handful of Soul is a the debut album by Mario Biondi. You will be surprised by this singer's deep and warm voice. It recalls the great interpreters soul and rhythm'n'blues music. Many will think of a black singer. Whereas Mario and Sicilian from Catania. Certainly he's capable of expressing his Soul when singing. After the first collaboration between Schema, Mario Biondi and the producer Alessandro Magnanini, which brought in 2004 to the release of Was-A-Bee's single "This Is What You Are / On A Clear Day", "Handful of Soul" is an album ranging between Jazz and Soul. The result is in this very enticing music release, whose sound swings from smooth vocal melodies to rhythmic tracks to dance…
Essential: a masterpiece of jazz-fusion music.
There might have been a fact that he informed them of the name worldwide as a guitar player in the latter half of the 1960's.
In 2014, from the ashes of the cult band Buttered Bacon Biscuits (BBB), were born the Witchwood which released in 2010 "From the Solitary Woods", distribuited by "Black Widow Records" and positively reviewed by many italian and foreign music magazines and websites. Shakti headed for the safer confines of a London recording studio on its second album, minus R. Raghavan and minus some of the volatile energy that they generated on their debut record. They were, however, a more integrated, more subtle ensemble now, exploring quieter, more lyrical corners of their East-West fusion, with L. Shankar's spectacular violin and Zakir Hussain's tabla taking the solo foreground as much as, if not more than, McLaughlin's acoustic guitar. With the exception of an arrangement of a traditional South Indian piece "Kriti," McLaughlin and Shankar contribute all of the compositions, which lean even more heavily toward South Indian music with reminders of McLaughlin's Western roots. As a whole, this is less accessible to McLaughlin's jazz-rock flock than the first Shakti album, but still fascinating for contemporary listeners.
Eastern Dance opens the very diversified music on the album. The original composition of Piotr combines two meters: 7/4 and 4/4. This melodic gravity often used in Polish folk songs. Two melodic lines of electric and acoustic guitar are lively counterpointed by the accordion and supported by a strong rhythm section. The tune is full of collective drive and energy. It is introduced with a mysterious beginning that is led by Olegs fine Duduk playing.
