Having documented the British psychedelic scene with anthologies devoted to the years 1967, 1968 and 1969, Grapefruit's ongoing series fearlessly confronts the dawn of the Seventies with a slight rebrand. New Moon's In The Sky: The British Progressive Pop Sounds Of 1970 features (appropriately enough) seventy tracks from the first year of the new decade as the British pop scene adjusted to life without The Beatles. The 3-CD set concentrates on the more song-based recordings to emanate from British studios during 1970, whether from a pure-pop-for-then-people perspective or the more concise, melodic end of the burgeoning progressive rock spectrum.

Opera people seem fiercely divided about the Decca Anna Bolena with Elena Suliotis, first published in 1970. Half think it is brilliant, and Suliotis' faults are worth putting up with because when she is good, she is very good, and the rest of the cast is unmatched . The cast is superb. Elena is singing at her very best; her voice dancing gracefully between a delicate and sensitive Non v’ha sguardo cui sia dato, to the tragic delilirium in piangete voi, from the thin, exquisite voice of cielo, a’miei lunghi spasimi, to the thicker, dramatic coppia inqui. Gosh what a graceful and superb performance.

American expatriate Joe Dassin was one of France's most popular singers during the late '60s and '70s, initially building his name with stylized adaptations of folk and country material from his birthplace. As his career blossomed, Dassin turned increasingly to traditional-style chansons penned by some of the genre's best writers, scoring an all-time classic with his 1975 smash "L'Eté Indien." Notorious for his perfectionism, Dassin could play the introverted romantic, but his persona also played off of American archetypes and imagery. His premature death of a heart attack in 1980 robbed French pop of one of its greatest modern-day practitioners.
