In 1985, NOW Music released ‘NOW Dance: The 12” Mixes’, a 20-track compilation that included the extended or remix versions of some of the biggest recent hits and popular club tracks. This was followed a year later by a second 20-track volume, and in 1989, a third…NOW Music proudly present ‘NOW Dance – The 80s’; a selection of 48 tracks that appeared on those three original ‘NOW Dance’ albums - all in their 12”, extended or remixed versions.From the first (1985) ‘NOW Dance’ release – Philip Bailey and Phil Collins’ #1 smash ‘Easy Lover’ kicks off the album, with The Power Station, Eurythmics, Stephen Tin Tin Duffy, and Belouis Some following. Less compiled cuts from Eddy And The Soulband and Mahogany, Lillo Thomas, and T.C. Curtis are up next, along with huge chart and club hits from Loose Ends, Cool Notes, Jermaine Jackson, and the #1 ‘Move Closer’ from Phyllis Nelson. Two 80s classics from Ashford and Simpson (‘Solid’) and DeBarge (‘Rhythm Of The Night’) feature, before making way for a stellar line-up from the next ‘NOW Dance’ - from 1986.

Beginning with the classic feel-good sing-along anthem ‘Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go’ from Wham! and continuing with a run of some of most memorable hits of the decade from Kenny Loggins with ‘Footloose’, the massive number one ‘Uptown Girl’ from Billy Joel and the triumphant ‘I’m Still Standing’ from Elton John. Moving on with a selection of songs from some of the greatest female voices of the decade – including Whitney Houston, Dolly Parton, Chaka Khan, Irene Cara and Olivia Newton-John. Up next is a run of hits from producers Stock, Aitken and Waterman including smashes from Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan, Rick Astley, Bananarama, Mel & Kim and Dead Or Alive. Completing the disc is Pop gold from The Bangles, Kim Wilde, Matthew Wilder, and finishing with the epic ‘If I Could Turn Back Time’ from Cher.

NOW Music are excited to present the next instalment of the ‘NOW 12” 80s’ series – NOW 12” 80s: 1982 – Part One – Out January 19th!Across 4 CDs, 48 extended, full-length or remixed versions reflecting the shift from Disco being the dominant genre in the Chart, to it being enriched with the developing Synth-Pop and New-Wave sounds of the New Romantics. Despite this sonic shift, the 12” single played an even more vital role than it had done with Funk and Disco, providing fans with more time on club dancefloors and more room for artist and producer experimentation. This edition of 12” 80s presents part one of 1982 – such massive year for Pop that we had to split this year into two parts to present all of the essential tracks.

The 12” single was a dynamic and increasingly essential part of the release schedule as the decade progressed. Incorporating extended (sometimes the full album) versions, remixes, and re-inventions – they not only gave the dance-floor a longer version, and the listener an alternative take, but also highlighted the artistry of the producer – bringing together all kinds of elements to create new soundscapes woven together with the original track, either vocal or instrumental, to present another reason to be excited on release date.
